        1.  Preston Hackworth (AKA James Preston3 Hackwith)  (John B.2 Hackworth, George1) was born 1809 in Floyd Co., KY, and died Aft. 1880 in Versailles, Brown Co., IL.  He married Nancy Jane Branham February 19, 1828 in Pike Co., KY, witnessed by Preston's mother Mary (Polly) Hackworth, daughter of William Branham and Grace Owens.  She was born 1813 in KY, and died Aft. 1880 in Versailles, Brown Co., IL.

Preston Hackwith was known as Preston Hackworth when he lived in Wayne Co., MO with wife Nancy Jane Branham.  He changed his name to James Preston Hackwith when he moved to Illinois sometime after the l850 Wayne Co., MO census, possibly because of a scandal in Missouri.

Notes for William Hackwith:
William's surname is spelled Hackwith on his marriage certificate;  however, in the l860 Bainbridge Township, Schuyler Co., IL census his wife Sarah Tyson's married name is spelled Hackworth.

Mrs. Malinda Hackwith Gorsage was the daughter of James Preston Hackwith and Nancy Jane Branham. She was married to John Gorsage before her marriage to Francis Marion Moore and was the sister of Sarah Jane Hackwith, Francis Marion Moore's first wife.

        26.  James Monroe5 Hackwith (Thomas Jefferson4, Preston Hackworth (AKA James Preston3 Hackwith), John B.2 Hackworth, George1) was born September 25, 1874 in Mt. Sterling, Brown Co., IL, and died October 13, 1959 in Kewanee, Henry Co., IL.  He married Bertha Flora Patton December 24, 1896 in Hersman, Brown Co., IL, daughter of Robert Patton and Maria Bailey.  She was born January 07, 1877 in Versailles, Brown Co., IL, and died April 04, 1932 in Toulon, Stark Co., IL.

Notes for Clarence Harlan Hackwith:
Clarence Harlan Hackwith disappeared sometime during the year 1916 while on leave from his ship during World War I.  No trace of him has ever been found. It was erroneously reported in the Peoria Star newspaper that he had been killed when his ship (USS Carolina) was sunk by a torpedo during World War I, but the National Archives could find no record of him ever having served in the Navy and the ship mentioned was not sunk but was instead sold in l924.

Notes for Hazel Irene Hackwith:
Hazel Irene Hackwith left home when she was l5 years old and lived with a cousin and aunt until she graduated from nursing school in 1917.  She was an early women private pilot - she belonged to the Chicago Girls' Flying Club in the late 1930's and also became a lifetime member of the 99's Women Flying Association.  When Hazel died in September of 1997, she was the oldest living member of the 99's organization.  She also was a champion women archer and was one of the top l00 women archers in the country in 1944.  She won numerous awards for her archery skills and also a trophy for spot landing while a pilot.

After her marriage to Grover Peterson, they moved to Escondido, Ca., where Hazel became a prize-winning flower arranger.  She won so many awards that they finally let her keep the trophy permanently.

Hazel excelled in everything she did and was a remarkable woman.

Notes for Charles Edwin Hackwith:
Charles Edwin Hackwith served in World War II and was in active duty during all of his service period.  Two of the ships he served on were the USS Maury DD-40l, a destroyer which won l6 battle stars, and the USS Yarnall, which won 9 battle stars.  Charles was an Ensign on the USS Yarnall.
