Virgil V. Breeden
PLYMOUTH--Virgil V. Breeden 90 of Rural Plymouth died at 9:47 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, in McDonough Hospital, Macomb. He was born March 20, 1907, in Browning to Charles Irvin and Sarah Alice (Ingram) Breeden. He married Minnie Mae Phillips on April 1, 1938. in Macomb. She died Oct. 9, 1997. He is survived by three sons, Jack (Carolyn) Breeden, Jerry (Shirley) Breeden, both of Plymouth and Roger(Connie) Breeden of Loraine; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Wike of Macomb; nine grandchildren;two step-granddaughters; 16 great grandchildren; two step-greatgrandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Max Breeden; and one great-grandson, Scott Myers; four brothers; and one sister. Mr. Breeden was a retired farmer and a board member of the former Birmingham school. Services are 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hamilton Funeral Home, Plymouth with the Rev. Henry Nash officiating. Burial will be in Scotts Cemetery near Plymouth. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 Daturday Evening. Memorials may be made to Scott's Cemetery.

AUGUSTA--Services for Max Breeden 64, of rural Augusta, are 1:30p.m. Tuesday in the Hamilton Funeral Home here. The Birmingham farmer died at 10:50 p.m. Friday in his home. The Rev. Ernest Louderman will officate and Burial is in Scott Cemetery near Plymouth. Family Visitation is 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Augusta Senior Citizens Center Minnie, Virgil and Max all lived in Schuyler either all or most of their lives and at the time of their deaths

Leland J. Skiles, 75, of Astoria, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at the Astoria Healthcare Center. He was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Astoria Township, the son of Leland and Hazel (Hoke) Skiles. He married Madelyn D. Foster on June 6, 1944, in Alexandria, La. She died Aug. 22, 1999. He also was preceded in death by one son, Brad Skiles. Surviving are two daughters, Landa Skiles of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Kenton (Robin) Shawgo of Astoria; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Wayne (Charlotte) Walden of Seligman, Mo.; and one brother, Carroll (and Wanda) Skiles of Astoria. He was a member of the Astoria United Methodist Church, Astoria Lion's Club Astoria Legion Post 25, ANSAR Temple AAONMS of Springfield, Masonic Lodge 116 of Vermont, Order of the Eastern Star 226 of Ipava, Good Sam Club; former member of the Board of Directors of the Farmers State Bank of Astoria, former trustee of the Village of Astoria. He was owner and operator of Skiles Fertilizer in Astoria from 1946 until his retirement in 1996. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp 452nd Bomber Group Association, 729th Bomb Squadron, stationed in Deopham Green, England, as an aerial gunner. Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Shawgo Memorial Home with Rev. Marian Stone officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Astoria American Legion Post 25. Memorials may be given to the Astoria United Methodist Church or to the Astoria Rescue Squad.

Orrin Wane Skiles, 74, of Astoria, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at the Astoria Healthcare Center. He was born July 13, 1926, in Astoria, the son of Charlie Allen and Mary (Kolp) Skiles. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Allen, one sister, Mary Haney, four nieces and three nephews. He is survived by two brothers, Louis Edward (wife, Beulah) of Industry and Charles Edmond (wife, Leona) of Astoria four sisters, Edith West of McCall, Idaho, Edna Fisk of Astoria, Alice Kiel of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Aloise Beaird of Sherman; eight nieces and nine nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Skiles were held Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with the Rev. Gary Schultz officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Richard A. "Dick" Smith, 53, of Salem, Ark., formerly of Astoria, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Oxford, Ark. He was born March 21, 1947, in Watseka, Ill., the son of Glenn and Clara B. (Baker) Smith. He married Cathy Link May 20, 2000, in Browning. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Glenda. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Richard W. Smith of Clewistown, Fla., and Christopher "Gator" Smith of Astoria; one daughter, Kris Autry of Clewistown, Fla.; one step-son, Michael Grimm of Ft. Benning, Ga.; one step-daughter, Cherri Clemens of Browning; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Susan Payton of Browning; and one brother, Michael L. Smith of East Peoria. He was a member of the Summum Fire Department. He was a farmer and worked for Spoon River Blacktop in Lewistown. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the Bader Cemetery with the Rev. Clifford Parry officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of services. Zola E. Sparks, 89, of Camden, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. She was born Jan. 1, 1911, in Schuyler County to James and Anna Myrtle Heitz Estes. She married C. D. Harvey. He preceded her in death. She later married Leonard L. Sparks on Dec. 4, 1973, at Palmyra, Mo. He died Dec. 3, 1983. Survivors include her twin sister, Lola E. Greene of Camden, a step-daughter, Jeannie Shaner of Redlands, Calif.; two nephews; a step-granddaughter; three grandnephews; a grandniece; three great-grandnephews; four great-grandnieces; and step-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sparks had worked in a factory in Macomb during W.W. II and then attended beauty school. She worked as a beautician in Quincy from 1956 until her retirement in 1973. She attended Palmyra United Methodist Church in Palmyra, Mo. Funeral services were held Friday at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra with Rev. Bruce Jeffries officiating. Burial was at the Grandview Burial Park in Hannibal, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to Palmyra United Methodist Church or Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Dr. Wilma Gordon Stienbarger, 91, of Augusta, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. She was born Sept. 2, 1909, in Augusta, the daughter of Sam and Hila (Hackney) Gordon. She married Wilmer N. Stienberger on May 20, 1940, in Macomb. He died Nov. 25, 2000. She is survived by two sons, Robert (wife, Emilie) of Albuquerque, N.M., and Philip (Wife, Myrna) of Augusta; three granddaughters and two nieces. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Kelly. Dr. Wilma Stienbarger retired from medical practice in 1986 after serving the Augusta area medical needs for 56 years. She was a 1926 graduate of Augusta High School and a 1930 graduate of the Kirksville, Mo., Osteopathic College. She was a member of the United Church of Augusta. She was a 71-year member of Augusta Chapter AQ PEO, a 73-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, member of Tri-County Country Club and a member of the Quincy, Mt. Sterling and Macomb Rock Clubs. Funeral services for Dr. Stienbarger will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta with the Rev. Kathleen Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hamilton Funeral Home Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday until the time of services. Memorials may be made to the Augusta Chapter AQ PEO Scholarship Fund or the Quincy Area Consistory Medical Scholarship Fund.

Dr. Wilmer N. Steinbarger, 90, of Augusta, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the Carthage Memorial Hospital in Carthage. He was born Sept. 12, 1910, in Augusta, the son of Wayne and Eugena (Bacon) Stienbarger. He married Dr. Wilma Gordon on May 20, 1940, in Macomb. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Robert (wife, Emilie) Stienbarger of Albuquerque, N.M., and Philip (wife, Myrna) Stienbarger of Augusta; three grandchildren, Sarah Stienbarger of Bloomington, Ind., Shelly Stienbarger of Monmouth, and Gina Stienbarger of Ottumwa, Iowa; and one niece, Patsi Behrends of Decatur. He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Justine Stienbarger, and one brother, Willard Stienbarger. He retired from medical practice in 1986 after serving the Augusta area for more than 44 years. He was a 1928 graduate of Augusta High School. He attended Kirksville Osteopathic College and received his medical degree from Des Moines Osteopathic College in 1942. He was a member of the United Church of Augusta. He was a charter member of the Tri-County Country Club; a 68 year member of J. L. Anderson Lodge 318 AF and AM in Augusta; member of Quincy Consistory; and the Ansar Shrine Temple in Springfield. He served in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 27, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta and Rev. Kathleen Hughes and Rev. Edward Boussaard officiated. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Augusta. Memorials are suggested for the Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital Cancer Center or the Southeastern High School Science Club.

Robert "Bobby" Charles Swan, 59, of Beardstown, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital's emergency room in Rushville. He was born Aug. 3, 1941, in Beardstown, to Robert Lee and Dorothy Marie Fritz-Swan. He married Sharon Kay Graham in Virginia, on June 15, 1967. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Herschel (wife Heidi) Swan of Virginia and Quentin (wife Jene) Swan of Beardstown; three daughters, Angie (husband Ron) Rohlfing, Bobbie (husband Randy) Jarrett and Glenna (husband Walter) Lyles, all of Beardstown; a sister Peggy (husband Harvey) Pate of Beardstown; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents, and two sisters, Glenna Merfen and Sally Swan. He was a commercial fisherman. He enjoyed duck hunting and the outdoors. Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 8, at the Cline-Goodwin Funeral Home of Beardstown with Rev. Floyd Terry of the First Southern Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Beardstown City Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be made to the family of Bobby Swan.

Mildred B. Thrasher, 85, of Lewistown, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born Aug. 7, 1915, in Pleasant Township, Fulton County, the daughter of Harvey and Mary (Kruzan) Vaughn. She married Dale Thrasher Feb. 26, 1935, in Havana. He died May 29, 1976. She also was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. Surviving are one son, James Thrasher of Lewistown; one daughter, Mrs. Floyd (Patsy) Ginger of Lewistown; three granddaughters; three grandsons; 14 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Burgess of Ipava, Wilma Baker of Little America, and Ruth Barclay of Lewistown; and three brothers, Maurice "Sonny" Vaughn of Lewistown, Junior Harvey (wife Virginia) Vaughn of Brereton; and Charles (wife Martha) Vaughn of Farmington. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge 566 of Lewistown for over 50 years, and attended the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church in Lewistown. She was a cook at Lewistown High School for 16 years, retiring in 1976. Graveside services were held Saturday, Oct. 14, at Providence Cemetery with Rev. Jon Sims officiating. Roy D. Ward Jr., 48, of Beardstown, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He was born Nov. 29, 1951, in Marietta, Ohio, to Roy Dean and Glenna Mae Nutter Ward. Surviving are four sons, Jeremy and Terry, both of Beardstown, Jason (wife Julie) of Rushville, and Todd of Fremont, Neb.; three grandchildren; three sisters, Linda (husband George) Forshey of Vincent, Ohio, Sandra (husband Tim) Snelling of Zanesville, Ohio, and Cynthia (husband Dan) Stout of Lowell, Ohio; one nephew and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1971 to 1974. He graduated in 1971 from Nelsonville Technical Institute in Ohio. Since 1986, he worked as a USDA meat inspector for Excel Corp., formerly Oscar Mayer Co., in Beardstown. Before that, he worked for Madison Foods in Madison, Neb. Services will be Thursday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in Beardstown City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ruth Mae Wheelhouse, 81, of Galva died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Kewanee Hospital. Born Jan. 16, 1919, in Mt. Sterling to Earl and Flora Lear Lashbrook, she married Richard Paul Wheelhouse on Dec. 27, 1936, in Rock Island. He died Sept. 21, 1994. One grandson, one great-grandchild and several brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. Surviving are four sons, Richard of Kewanee, Raymond of Rock Island, Rod of Galva and Roger of Galesburg; four daughters, Marcia (husband Ron) Hepner, Rose Hazelwood, Becky Wheelhouse and Rita (husband Larry) Mallery, all of Galva; three brothers, Clyde Lashbrook of Beardstown, Carl Lashbrook of Mendota and Fred Lashbrook of Rushville; three sisters, Grace Johnson of Moline, and Justine Sipes and Maroy Claussen, both of Rushville; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was a child-care giver, working out of her home. She was a member of the Assembly of God in Galva. Services were held Saturday, Dec. 23, at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. The Rev. Don Edwards officiated. Cremation was accorded after services.

Michelle Sue Yost, 10, of Yigo, Guam, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Tripler Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was born April 22, 1990, in Colorado Springs, Colo., the daughter of Mark D. and Susan C. Taylor Yost. Surviving are her parents, Mark and Susan Yost, who were stationed in the U.S. Air Force in Yigo, Guam; paternal grandparents, Richard and Beth Yost of Beardstown and Evelyn and John Lewis of Rushville; maternal grandmother; Betty Taylor of Beardstown; one sister, Taylor Jo Yost of Yigo, Guam; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Delbert Taylor. Michelle was attending fifth grade at the Anderson Elementary School in Guam. Funeral services for Michelle Yost were Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at the Sager Funeral HomE in Beardstown with Pastor Carl Wiggins of the Bethany Bible Church in Rushville officiating. Burial was in the Rushville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Manda M. Anderson, 91, Vermont, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at the Parkview Health Care Center in East Moline. She was born Jan. 15, 1909, in Table Grove, the daughter of Newton and Ernestine Eglin Heller. She married Lyle Anderson on June 24, 1933, in Vermont. He died Nov. 4, 1992. She is survived by one son, Donald (wife, Norma) Anderson of Moline; one grandson; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Heller of Table Grove and Paul Heller of Moline; and one sister, Ellen Deener of Mason City. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. She graduated from Western High School in Macomb and Western Illinois University. She taught school for 34 years, 16 years in rural schools and 18 years as fifth grade teacher in Vermont Grade School. She was a member of Vermont Women's Club, Alpha Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the Vermont Methodist Church. Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 11 at Kost Memorial Home in Vermont with Rev. Jerry Sawyer officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Vermont Library, Vermont Methodist Church, or Vermont Rescue Squad.

Nelda M. Eikenberry 84, of Astoria, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. She was born Feb. 1, 1916, in Astoria, the daughter of Paul J. and Orpha M. (Benton) Rhoades. She married Lorrel S. Eikenberry June 8, 1941, in Astoria. He survives. She was preceded in death by an infant sister. She also is survived by one son, James (wife, Susan) Eikenberry of Lancaster, Pa.; one daughter, Mrs. Ken (Paula) Langdon of Mentor, Ohio; four grandsons; two brothers, J. Benton (wife, Doris) Rhoades of Claremont, Calif., and Robert (wife, Betty) Rhoades of DeKalb; and one sister, Mrs. Robert (Marianne) Pittman of Blacksburg, Va. She was a member of Astoria Christian Church, Woodland Church of the Brethren, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and Astoria Sunshine Club. She was a medical technologist. She was the dean of the College of Medical Technology at St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford. She was an adjutant college faculty member throughout Illinois universities and colleges. She was formerly the head of the Northern Illinois Blood Bank. She was a travelling Christian education consultant. She was an inner city children and youth recreation leader in Rockford. She was an author, recently completing the Rhoades family genealogy entitled, "Follow the Peter Rhoades Trail." Services were Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Astoria Christian Church with Rev. Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Spoon River Hospice at Graham Hospital in Canton. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of services.

Hugh C. Farr, 82, of Table Grove, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. He was born March 5, 1918, in Browning, the son of Hugh Melvin and Anna Elizabeth (Schuman) Farr. He married Frances I. Crick on Sept. 1, 1940, in Ipava. She died April 6, 1994. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Donald. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Don (Patricia) Rittenhouse of Moline; three sons, Marshall (wife, Susan) Farr of Danville, Don Farr of Table Grove, and Dennis (wife, Lettie) Farr of Springfield; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Farr and Jack G. Farr, both of Table Grove; and one sister, Ida Lou Wherley of Ipava. He was a member of Table Grove Community Church, where he served as trustee. He served as a Democrat Precinct Committeeman of Fulton County and he was on the Fulton County Planning Commission. He was a farmer and owner and operator of Farr Trucking and Farr Fertilizer. Services were held Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Table Grove Community Church, with the Rev. Frank Bush officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery. Timothy L Hendee, 34, of rural Browning, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 20, 1966, in Canton, the son of Lee and Bonnie (Steele) Hendee. He married Konnie Stambaugh on March 14, 1991, in Lewistown. He was survived by his parents of Hager City, Wisc.; one son, Detrick Lee Hendee, at home; one daughter, Abbie Dawn Hendee, at home; one sister, Mrs. Mike (Tammy) Nelson of Red Wing, Minn. He was a member of Astoria Christian Church and a former member of the Astoria Fire Department. He was employed as a lieutenant prison guard at the Illinois River Correction Center in Canton for the last 11 years. Services were Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, with the Rev. Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery. Memorials for his children may be made in care of the Ipava State Bank.

Dorothy L. Hobrock, 90, of Beardstown, died Monday, Nov 6, 2000, at Culbertson Long Term Care of Rushville. She was born Dec. 11, 1909, in St. Louis, Mo., to Theodore and Addie Breier-Lovekamp. She married Oral H. Hobrock in Beardstown on April 24, 1949. He died on Saturday, Dec. 17, 1994. She also was preceded in death by both of her parents and a brother, Andrew Lovekamp. Mrs. Hobrock is survived by a son, Dale Hobrock, of Beardstown, and a granddaughter. She worked as the secretary at John Deere Beardstown Implement Company, owned by her and her husband. She was a member of the St. John's 6th Street Lutheran Church of Beardstown, Concordia Guild of the church, and Beardstown Business and Professional Women's Club. The funeral service was Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at the Cline-Goodwin Funeral Home of Beardstown, with Rev. Richard Bremer officiating. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Handicap Access Fund.

Clement A. Icenogle, 90, of Macomb, formerly of Colchester, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb. He was born March 30, 1910, in Prairie Grove, Ark., the son of Elmer and Mabel Thompson Icenogle. He married Eleanor Grandt on Dec. 20, 1936, in Macomb. She died April 12, 1994. He is survived by five sons, David (wife, Carol) of Auburn, Ala., Robert (wife, Twila) of San Antonio, Texas, Paul (wife, JoAnn) of Rolling Meadows, Roger (wife, Judy) of Winslow, Maine, and Alan (wife, Karen) of Rushville; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Carol) Ashbacher of Davenport, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two brothers, Homer of Macomb and Elmer of Wauconda; and three sisters, Addra Graham of Macomb, Mariam Riggins of Weslaco, Texas, and Vivian McGaughey of Carthage. Also preceding him in death was one sister, May Jacobs and one grandson. He was a graduate of Western Lab School in Macomb, and attended Western Illinois University. He was born Aug. 14, 1917, in Clarksville, Pa., the son of Harold Verne and Nellie (Orndorff) Miley. He married Roberta Ladd on Dec. 8, 1944, in Quincy. She died July 26, 2000. He also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Paul (April) Marcot of Fairfax Station, Va.; one son, Alan (wife, Kathy) Miley of Reston, Va., and two grandchildren. Stanford "Bud" O'Hern Sr., 74, of Vermont, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at his residence. The youngest of 13 children, he was born Aug. 25, 1926, near Lovell, Okla., to Patrick S. and Jane (Duncan) O'Hern. He married Rita Marie Mirkes on Oct. 9, 1948, in Hennessey, Okla. She survives. He is survived by four daughters, Cathy Crain of Macomb, Mrs. Steve (Rose Marie) Lynn of Bardolph, Mrs. James (Cindy) Cassidy of Table Grove, and Maryann O'Hern of Seaside, Calif.; two sons, Stan Jr. of Hennessey, Okla., and Larry Joe (wife, Kelley) of Vermont; 17 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Charlie of Hennessey, Okla., and Clyde of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Flossie Gallup of Stratford, Okla., and Winifred "Winnie" Pryor of Tulsa, Okla. Mr. O'hern was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, seven brothers, and one sister. He graduated from Surprise Country School and Hennessey, Okla., High School. After serving in the US Army, he moved his small family to rural Vermont in 1951. He spent the rest of his life in the Vermont area as a farmer and cattleman. Mr. O'Hern was honored as the Outstanding Conservation Farmer for McDonough County in 1985. He was a member of the Tri-County Cattleman Association, Illinois Beef Association, National Cattleman's Association, Illinois Pork Producers, and American Legion Post 26 and a member of the Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Macomb. The Rev. Richard Pricco and Rev. David Kurt will officiate. Burial will be in Vermont Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by his American Legion Post. She was born Nov. 16, 1904, in Vermont, the daughter of Wilson and Minnie Belle (Hayes) Rakestraw. She married Benjamin Belvill in 1920 in Mt. Grove, Mo. He died June 23, 1923. She then married Virgia E. Pickel on Dec. 31, 1925. in Lewistown. He died May 19, 1975. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Walter and Roy Belvill; three infant sons; one daughter, Irma Coulter; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Stolp on June 23, 1944. He preceded her in death. She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Jean (Wayne) Hillman of Avon; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frances Agans of East Peoria and Carroll Agens of Ripley; one half brother, David Agans of Camden; and one half sister, Judy Parks of Rushville. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, two brothers and one sister. She was born and raised in the Camden area. She moved to Avon in 1959, where she has lived since. She was born Nov. 26, 1927, in Canton, to the late Lester David and Gladys Mae Sellers Pryor. She married Forrest "Hoatsie" Thompson in Carthage. He died Dec. 30, 1992. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Jane Billingsley (husband Randy) of Jacksonville, Fla., Karen Fitzjarrald and Lisa Roberts (husband Bill), all of Rushville one son, William Thompson (wife Ginger) of Smithfield; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Betty Pryor of Chula Vista, Calif., Marylou Breeden of East Galesburg, Donna Severns of Beardstown, and Sandra Launer of Washington; and one brother, William Pryor of Ventura, Calif. Wesley and Ruth Paisley Logsdon. He married Claudia Jamison Nov. 11, 1972, in Georgetown, Texas. She survives, along with his mother of Rushville; four daughters, Carol Yvonne Kraska of Richmond, Ky., Lucille Pauline Eaves of Houston, Texas, Lynne Rene Williams of Houston, Texas, and Melissa Ruth Logsdon of Houston, Texas; three sons, Gregory Scott Logsdon of San Francisco, Calif., Glenn Douglas Logsdon II, of Richmond, Ky., and Michael James Eaves of Dallas, Texas; one granddaughter; and one sister, Bonnie Kelly of Great Falls, Mont. He was preceded in death by his father. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1970 with a bachelor of science degree in geology. He worked for Allied Chemicals and Damson Oil Company until 1986. He then worked for the Houston Log Library Association, retiring in 1998 due to ill health. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Wayne Bonser officiating. Burial was in the Palm Cemetery west of Rushville.

Shirley Joan Ward, 52, of Rushville, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident. She was born July 15, 1948, in Rushville, the daughter of Ivan and Rose (Dean) Busby. She married Donald Ward on June 22, 1968, in Rushville. He survives. Also surviving are her mother of Rushville; two daughters, Lynn Stover (husband Jeff) and Beth Read (husband Mark) all of Rushville; five grandchildren; one brother, Michael Busby of Rushville; and one niece and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Charles Busby. A 1971 graduate of Graham School of Nursing, she was a registered nurse at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville for 29 years, serving as the Director of Nursing since 1993. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rushville, Culbertson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Illinois Organization of Nurse Leaders. She enjoyed spending time and babysitting her grandchildren. Memorial services were Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Henley officiating. Burial of the cremains followed in the Rushville City Cemetery. The Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville was in charge of the services. She married Lee Roy (Red) Wilckens on Oct. 18, 1947, in Plymouth. He survives. She is also survived by one daughter, Kitty (Bill) Coons of Quincy; two sons, Patrick (Sandy) Wilckens of Knoxville and Timothy (Marianne) Wilckens of Milan, Ohio; one sister, Irma Waner of Augusta; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Aaron Coons; two brothers, Sterling and Ivan McGinnis and four sisters, Gladys Farwell, Sylvia Waner and Doris and Elva Melvin. She was born January 12, 1928 in Frederick, the daughter of Russel Edward and Marie Keeran Rining. She married Franklin Dewey Workman on November 17, 1951 in Browning and he preceded her in death May 23, 1997. Surviving is one son Terry Workman (wife Karla) of Beardstown; one daughter Vicki Workman of Browning; four grandchildren, Amber Lenover, Russel Reedy, Tiffanie Workman, and Tyler Workman; three great grandchildren Ross and Carly Lenover and Abbigail Reedy; and one brother Don Rining (wife Audrey) of Browning. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Frank. Mrs. Workman attended Schuyler County schools. She was previously employed at the Clock Factory in Table Grove, Wells-Lamont Glove factory in Beardstown, and Goodwill Industries. Mrs. Workman also farmed with her family for many years. Funeral services for Bette M. Workman will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2001, at the Beardstown Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Bill Couchenour officiating. He attended the Houston United Methodist Church and was a member of Littleton Lodge No. 766 A.F. & A.M. and Rushville Lodge No. 9 A.F. & A.M. Educated in Rushville schools, she graduated from Rushville High School. She was employed with Sangamo Electric in Springfield during World War II. She married William J. Hamilton on March 6, 1955, at the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Morris, an active church volunteer, and a member of the Grundy County Historical Society. Surviving are her husband, William J. Hamilton of Morris, two sons, John (Connie) Hamilton of Ransom, and Mark (Kim) Hamilton of Glendale Heights; one granddaughter; one step-granddaughter; two step-great-granddaughters; four sisters, Bernice Johns of Springfield, Irilla Vaughn of Morris, Elizabeth Vincent of Springfield, and Mary Gerdes of Rushville; one brother, Cleve "Bud" Jones Jr. of Rushville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Pearl, and three brothers, Dean, Morris and Paul. He worked for several law enforcement agencies and taught DARE classes in Schuyler, Brown and. Scott counties. He also had been an E.M.T. with the Schuyler Emergency Services and Disaster Agency. He attended the First Baptist Church in Havana. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Scott Henley and Rev. Wesley Burns officiating. She married Galen Ogden Sept. 7, 1937, in Palmyra, Mo. He died July 12, 1988. Surviving are one son, Galen E. Robert "Bob" Pigg, 70, of Lakewood, Colo., died Jan. 21, 2001. He was born Nov. 18, 1930, in Bernadotte Township in Fulton County, Illinois. He worked in sales and delivery for Denver Industrial Sales Co. He served in the United States Air Force and retired as a master sergeant after 21 years. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana with a degree in agriculture. He was grain elevator manager and retired from Anchor Grain Co. in 1991. Since then, he has served as an interim manager at elevators all over Illinois and Iowa. He served as director of the Feed and Grain Association of Illinois for more than six years. He also was instrumental in keeping the railroad in Anchor, and helped form a short line railroad called the Bloomer Line, which is still running today. With his skill and knowledge of grain elevator operations, he was well known for his expertise in agriculture.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Richard Steht, and maternal grandfather, Lemont Lutz. She was a flight attendant for American Eagle Airlines. She was a member of Hope Charge United Methodist Church of Littleton. She had attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and was a 1998 graduate of Western Illinois University with a bachelor degree in elementary education with cum laude honors. Services were Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton. Memorial services to be held Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at 7 p.m. at Littleton United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Beesley officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Surname: GOLLIHER, ADAMS, RAMSON, MOORE, BLACK, WARDELL Buford, "Mac" GOLLIHER of West Point, formerly of Quincy, died in St. Mary hospital in Quincy, Monday afternoon at 12:55 o'clock. He had been failing for two years and was bedfast two weeks entering the hospital three days ago. Mr. GOLLIHER was b Schuyler county, Illinois born March 28,1877 a son of Henry and Salina ADAMS GOLLIHER. He lived in Quincy for 20 years until a year and a half ago when he moved to West Point. He was a carpenter. He attended the Christian church. His marriage to Elva RAMSON took place December 15, 1898. Surviving are the widow, two sons, Kenneth and Rennell, both of Quincy, a daughter, Mrs. Fred MOORE of Adams, four grandchildren Robert, Kenneth and Bruce MOORE of Adams, and Betty GOLLIHER of Quincy a brother, William J. GOLLIHER of Copperstown, two half brothers, George BLACK of Versailles and John BLACK of Beardstown a half sister, Mrs. Charles WARDELL of Beardstown and an aunt, Miss Agatha ADAMS of Timewell.

John G. Beam was born in Hesse Castel, Germany, Nov. 30, 1832, and departed this life Aug. 26, 1902, aged 69 years, 8 months, and 27 days. He came to America in the year 1852 and lived in the state of Maryland for about five years, then coming to Illinois he lived in Fulton county until the year 1878 then he moved to the home in Schuyler county, where he lived until death called him away. He was married to Harriet Litchfield Nov. 8, 1860. Unto this union was born ten children, seven of whom with their mother survive him. He united with the Christian church about ten years ago and was held in good fellowship until death.

Sam "Ray" Bassham, 39, of East Peoria, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born March 18, 1961, in Peoria, the son of Willey and Shirley D'Camp Bassham. Surviving are his parents of Salem, Ark.; one brother, Billy (wife Lori) Bassham of East Peoria; two sisters, Mrs. Mark (Donna) Tonsor or Marquette Heights and Mrs. Larry (Zoe) Ellison of Low Point; four nephews; and three nieces. He was employed at the Paradice Casino of East Peoria. He was a member of Richland Southern Baptist Church in East Peoria, Rushville Southern Baptist Church in Rushville, and Peoria area puppeteers. He devoted his life to making people happy. Services were Friday, Feb. 16 at the Rushville Southern Baptist Church in Rushville with Rev. Mike Cooper officiating. Burial was in the Brooklyn City Cemetery. Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria was in charge of the services. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.

Joyce Kathryn D'Camp, 64, of Macomb, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at the Care Center of Colchester. She was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Creve Coeur, the daughter of the late Samuel Thomas and Clesta Charolette (Clanin) D'Camp. She worked at Bridgeway in Macomb and babysat and worked as a housekeeper for many families. Surviving are two brothers, Tom of Macomb and Claude (wife Donna) of Ashland; six sisters, Julia West of Salem, Ark., Mrs. Orvill (Ethel) Abbey of Jacksonville, Mrs. Wally (Shirley) Bassham of Salem, Ark., Jeanette Miller of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Eugene (Earline) Fox of Pittsburg, Mo., and Charolette D'Camp of Quincy. She was preceded in death by one brother, Samuel D'Camp. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville with Rev. Mike Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville. Memorials may be given to the McDonough County Hospice.

Ralph N. Malott, 96, of Vermont, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Prairieview Care Center in Lewistown. He was born Oct. 19, 1904, in Pleasant Township, Fulton County, the son of Elmer and Effie (Weese) Malott. He married Florine Grace Shields in 1923. She died July 22, 1972. He also was preceded in death by two sons, Willis and Leroy; one granddaughter, Melissa Malott; two sisters and two brothers. Surviving are four sons, Robert of Lewistown, Bernard (and Stella) of Elmwood; Ralph, Jr., (and Vickie) of Maceo, Ky., and Gaylon (and Brianna) of Marquette Heights; two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Nelda) Fell of Homewood, and Mrs. Joe (Melba) Harris of Channahon; 16 grandchildren; and a number of great and great-great-grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid fox hunter, promoting this sport a great deal. He also was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He was employed at International Harvester in Canton for 38 years, retiring in 1968. He also farmed in Vermont and around Fulton County. Services were Saturday, Feb. 17, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, with Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Burial was in the Summum Cemetery near Astoria. Edith Louise Sanders, 92, of West Bloomfield, Mich., died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Huron Valley Hospital in Commerce, Mich. She was born Jan. 5, 1909, in Peter Cartwright Township, Sangamon County, Ill., a daughter of John L. and Lena Morgan Noble. She married Merl A. Sanders on Jan. 31, 1927. Surviving are two sons, James E. (wife Dorothy) of West Bloomfield, Mich.; William M. (wife Sandra) of Clearwater, Fla.; eight grandsons; seven granddaughters; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mable Nottingham of Virginia and Mrs. Edna McConnell of Rochester; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Noble of Waverly. She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 20, 1986; two sons, John Robert and Ronald; one brother, John; and one sister, Francis. Services were Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, in Union Lake Baptist Church in Commerce, Mich. A special church service was held with Pastor Philip Johnson officiating. Interment was in Pine Lake Cemetery on Monday, Feb. 19. Neece Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Lorene N. Shirrell, 93, of Macomb, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at The Elms in Macomb. She was born Aug. 16, 1907, in Rosine, Ky., the daughter of Finley and Mary Luella (Liesure) Nimmo. She married Eldon Shirrell on Sept. 19, 1963, in Peoria. He died March 31, 1999. She also was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, and one sister. Surviving are one sister, Helen Myers of Beaver Dam, Ky., and two grandsons. She was a member of McHenry Christian Church in McHenry, Ky. She was a homemaker and also worked for Hiram Walker in Peoria for several years. Graveside services were Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Bluff City Cemetery with Gary Sheets officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of services.

Patricia JoAnn Welker, 60, of Astoria, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born June 5, 1940, in Havana, the daughter of Fred and Margret (DeMoss) Rairdan. She married Franklin J. Welker on Dec. 3, 1956 in Havana. He survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Delmar (Bonnie) Clark of Ipava; two sons, Bruce (wife Ranae) Welker and Billie (wife Traci) Welker, both of Princeville; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and mother-[in-law] Dena (DeMoss) Jones. She was a member of the Astoria Christian Church. She worked for L.R. Nelson in Peoria and Princeville for 10 years. Services were Monday, Feb. 19, at Astoria Christian Church with Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was at Summum Cemetery near Astoria. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of services. Chloe Fowler, 91, of Rushville, formerly of the Brooklyn area, died Saturday; Feb. 10, 2001, at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville. She was born Feb. 22, 1909, in McDonough County; to the late Ross E. and Emma West Baker. She married H. Mike Fowler May 14, 1925, in Brooklyn. He died Aug. 3, 1991. Surviving are one son, Ronnie Fowler (wife Janice) of Brooklyn; two daughters, Mrs. Donnie (Kathy) Garlick of Macomb, and Mrs. Leroy (Dianne) McClelland of Rushville; a son-in-law, Glen Milby of Bryant; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Alice Baker of Springfield, Mo. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jeanette Milby; one infant son; one infant daughter; one granddaughter; three brothers, Vern, Ralph and Bill Baker; and one sister, Nellie McMeins. She was a member of the Brooklyn United Methodist Church. She and her husband farmed. She also was a rural mail carrier, cooked at the Brooklyn Grade School and Augusta High School, and cared for shut-ins in their homes. Chloe loved to garden, cook and care for her family. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Mr. David Haney officiating. Burial will be in the Blackburn Cemetery near Brooklyn. Memorials may be given to the Brooklyn United Methodist Church.



   Obituary for Cecil W. Herche

Cecil W. Herche, 71, of Rushville, died Feb. 7, 2001, at the Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. He was born May 18, 1929, in Schuyler County, to the late Lewis and Emma E. O'Neal Herche. He married Beverly Burns Sept. 3, 1950, in Rushville. She died April 17, 1995. He later married Dorcas Pickinpaugh Corman June 26, 1999, in Rushville. She survives, along with three children, Robert Herche (wife Linda) of Rushville, Ann Herche of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Roger Herche (wife Diane) of Springfield; two grandchildren; one step-daughter, Mrs. Sarah (Ted) Rust of Rushville; one step-granddaughter; and one brother, Lee Herche (wife Betty) of Rushville. He was an army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rushville and was treasurer of the memorial fund for the church. He also was a member of the Rushville Rotary Club and served on the Schuyler County Ag-Day committee. He was a former member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Kiwanis Club. He farmed after his discharge from the army and then was the county manager for the Peoria County Farm Bureau. He then managed Exposition Gardens in Peoria; worked for Illinois Contract Marketing Association in Bloomington and was county manager for the Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau, retiring in 1994. Cremation has been accorded with burial in the Rushville City Cemetery. A memorial service was held Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville with Rev. Scott Henley officiating. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may he given to Schuyler Ambulance Service or the First United Methodist Church.

Hattie Sue "Susie" Wilkens, 80, of Powell, Wy., formerly of Astoria, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at the Powell Nursing Home in Powell, Wy. She was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Macomb, the daughter of John A. and Bonnie B. (Curless) Wherley. She married Gerald Wilkens on Sept. 8, 1944, in California. He survives. Also surviving are one son, Gerry (and Pat) Wilkens of Salt Lake City, Utah; three daughters, Sallie Wentz of Scottsbluff, Neb., Mrs. Dick (Nancy) Hargrove of Helena, Mont.; and Mrs. Paul (Teri Ann) Drake of Helena, Mont.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, John Phillip (and Lois Ann) Wherley of Scottsdale, Ariz. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 226 in Ipava. She and her husband were owner/operators of Wilkens Jewelry in Astoria from 1945-1952. They moved to Casper, Wy., in 1952, where they managed the John Triponey Jewelry Store for three years. They bought Shelby Jewelry in Powell, Wy., in 1955. In 1972, the family expanded their business interests and purchased a department store that Susie managed. They sold this store several years later. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Astoria.
