Obituary for EMILY RIDINGS
, April 23, 1930
Emily Z. Ridings, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel DeCounter, was born at
Ripley, Brown County, IL, February 28, 1853, and died in Rushville, IL,
April 16, 1930 at the home of her step-sister, Mrs. Lottie Bea. Her age at
time of her death was 77 years 1 month and 16 days. Mrs. Ridings had been
in failing health for some time but on Tuesday was able to be up and around
the house. At 3 o'clock Wednesday morning she suffered a hemmorrhage and
remained critical until relieved by death.
On January 14, 1871 (note: should be 1872) she was united in marriage to
Nelson M. Ridings. To this union 8 children were born. Her husband and 4
children preceded her in death. Four sons are living, namely: J. Samuel of
Shicago; Clifford of Camden; Logan of Morrisville, N.Y., and Raleigh of
Plymouth.
She had been a member of the Christian Church of Augusta for a number of
years. The passing of this citize and friend is the source of general
regret among those who knew her but they are comforted with the memory of
her well lived life, her willingness to help others, in time of sorrow and
distress, her lovable, unselfish disposition, her Christian faith that has
ever proven a source of comfort to her through times of sorrow.
She leaves to mourn her departure, besides the 4 sons and their wives, 8
grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and her step-sister Mrs. Lottie
Bea of Rushville.
Funeral services were held at the Augusta Christian Church, Friday
afternoon April 18, at 2:30 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. F.
W. Leonard of Blandinsville and the body was laid to rest in Woodlawn
Cemetery.

Obituary for NELSON RIDINGS
, Obituary, October 6, 1926
Nelson, son of James & Catherine Ridings, was born in Nodaway County, MO,
December 2, 1849 and passed away at Camden, September 28, 1926 at the age
of 76 years, 9 months & 26 days.
When a lad he came to Schuyler County. On January 14, 1872 he married Emily
DeCounter. To this union was born 8 children, 5 boys and 3 girls: Sam of
Chicago, Logan J. of New York, Raleigh of Augusta, Clifford of Camden with
whom he made his home. One son Guy died overseas in the service. The three
girls Katie, Daisy & Laura have also preceded their father in death. The
past 2 years he has attended church in Camden. Besides his wife & four
sons, he leaves one sister, Abbie Bertroche of Burlington, Iowa, one
brother, Arthur of Rushville, on half-brother Ralph Ridings of Macomb, 2
half sisters, Estella Shoupe of Macomb & Effie Dean of Littleton, 8
grandchildren and other relatives & friends.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Camden, September 30 at
10 a.m., Rev. H. C. Aris officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemberty in
Augusta.

Obituary for JAMES E. RIDINGS

James Ridings, one of Schuyler county's old time residents, died at his
home
in Woodstock township Monday evening at 11:30 o'clock. Mr. Ridings had
been a
sufferer months with a cancer upon his face. He had tried all kinds of
treatment, but failed to gain relief, and finally the disease became spread
over
his entire system and he rapidly lost strength. For two days before his
death he was unconscious and delirious till at last death came to relieve
his sufferings.
Mr. Ridings was born in Tennessee in 1825. He had resided on his farm in
Woodstock township for forty years or more. He was twice married and
leaves a family of ten grown children, Nelson M. Ridings, a brother, resides in
Mason City, Mo., and Mrs. Stinnett, a sister at Joplin, Mo. Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. yesterday, at his late residence, conducted by Rev. J.
N. Craig. Interment in the Palm cemetery, the Oddfel ????????????.

Obituary for MRS. MARGARET RIDINGS

RIDINGS, MRS. MARGARET Died at the residence of her husband in Woodstock
township, June 3, 1882 of consumption. Mrs. Margaret Ridings, wife of James
Ridings; aged 41 years 5 months and 26 days. The deceased was a daughter of
the late John James. She leaves a husband and 7 children, with many friends
to mourn her departure. The last time I met her, she requested me to sing
for her and we united in singing "Home of the Soul", she joining us in the
song until her strength failed, looking upward with a smile on her face.

Obituary for ARTHUR RIDINGS
The Rushville Times,
Arthur Ridings, a life-long resident of Schuyler county, died Friday night
at his home on South Monroe street. He had been confined to his bed for the
past few weeks, a sufferer from cancer.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Christian
church. Interment was made in the family lot in the Littleton cemetery.
The following obituary was read at the service.
Arthur Mae Ridings, son of James and Elizabeth Bennett-Ridings, was born on
a farm in Woodstock township, Schuyler county, May 25, 1868, and passed
away at his late home in Rushville, March 1, 1935; aged 66 years, 9 months
and 4 days. His death followed a prolonged illness from cancer of the
stomach.
In the year 1890 Mr. Ridings was joined in marriage to Miss Fannie Henry of
Rushville, and the entire period of their married life has been spent in
Schuyler county. Four children were born to this union, one of whom,
Eathyl, died in early womanhood, in the year 1916.
Mr. Ridings was a man of quiet, unassuming manner; ever kind and
affectionate to members of his family, and he was considered a loyal friend
to those less fortunate than himself. He united with the Christian church
of this city during a meeting held by Rev. Harmon, and has ever since
remained a member.
He is survived by his wife and the following children: Everett Ridings of
near Good Hope; Clara, wife of Lloyd Fretueg, and Miss Nell Ridings, both
of Rushville.
He is also survived by the following sisters and brother: Mrs. Abbie
Bertroche of Burlington, Iowa; Mrs. Effie Dean of Littleton; Mrs. Estella
Shupe, and Ralph Ridings, both of Macomb.

"Charlotte Stubb Bea, daughter of William and Harriet Clark Stubb, was born
November 30, 1847, in Floyd County, IN, and departed this life September
27, 1936, at her home in Rushville.
Aunt Lottie came to Ripley from Indiana with her mother and sister, Laura
Stubb, in 1849. .....At the age of eighteen years she was united in
marriage to David O'Neal. (After his death) she was married to Alias Bea,
and they moved to Topeka, Kansas, to establish their home. A few years
later she returned to live with her mother and stepfather, Samuel
DeCounter. .......Besides her niece, she is survived by a nephew, Clarence
Luthy of Mt. Sterling, and a cousin, Eunice Cox of Rushville."

"Asleep in Jesus"
Mrs Harriet [Litchfield] Beam was born Aug. 5, 1841, and departed this life June 21, 1908, aged 67 years,
9 months and 16 days.She was married to John G. Beam Nov. 8, 1860, who preceded her in death Aug. 26, 1902.
To this union ten children were born, seven of whom are living, all being present in the hour of death.
William, Harve, Laura McLaren, Homer, Florence Venters, Jefferson and Ida Venters. She was the third child
of eight children and she was the first to leave this world. Mrs. Lizzie Danner, Astoria township; Mrs.
Jane Burrows, LIttleton; Mrs. Emma Swisher, AStoria; Mrs. Martha McDonald, Adair; Mrs. Mrs. Olive Aten,
Greenburg, Mo.; James Litchfield, Adair; Manford Litchfield, Pleasant Ridge. Sister Beam was a consistent
member of the Christian Church, leaving this world in full faith, with a willing heart and songs on her
lips, expressing her desire to go, as her home was in heaven. She had been in poor health all winter, but
only confined to her room one week.!
She leaves brothers, sisters,
children and sweet grand-children to miss her presence in this world, but to know she went to sleep in Jesus
with sweetest hopes of eternal life, a face beaming with smiles of glory, we bow with hearts in solemn
unison to know that the light of her life will never grow dim, but her name will be remembered with all love
and sweet remembrance. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in this sad hour.
Funeral services were held from the Christian church Tuesday at 2 o'clock, Elder E. B. Dixon, of
Littleton, officiating. Remains were interred in the Baders cemetery.

Obituary for William Beam
,
William Henry Beam, oldest son of John G. and Harriet Beam, deceased, was born near Astoria, August 23,
1861, and departed this life at the Schmitt Memorial hospital on Saturday morning, January 23, 1937, where
he had been a patient the past two months with a broken hip. At the time of his death he was aged 75 years
and 5 months.
For the past fifty-nine years he had been a resident in this locality and for a number of years he had
made his home with his niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hoke.
The deceased was a lover of nature and spent much of his time with his gun in the woods, and as he was
coming in from one of these trips he had the misfortune to fall and injure himself.
He was of a family of ten children, three of whom preceded him in death. The following brothers and
sisters are left to mourn his departure: J.H. Beam of Seneca, S.D.; Mrs. Glen Veenters of Virden; Homer,,
T.J., Mrs. Earle Venters and Mrs. Ed. McLaren.
Funeral services were held at the Bader church, conducted by Rev. G. Zink of Astoria. Interment was in
the Bader cemetery.
The many friends of the relatives extend their sympathy.

Obituary for Edgar "Ed" McLaren

Edgar McLaren, 89, lifelong resident of the Bader area, died shortly after noon Wednesday, March 6, 1963,
in the Schmitt Memorial HOspital in Beardstown following a lengthy illness. He had been a patient there
since Feb. 27. Mr. McLaren was a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of the Bader area. He was a member
of the Bader Christian church.
Mr. McLaren was born Nov. 12, 1873 at Bader, a son of Robert and Julia Fowler McLaren. He was married to
Laura Beam on May 15, 1900. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Hoke and Mrs. Hildreth Cassel, both of Bader; and one son,
Merle McLaren of Westmont; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Ethel
Hartsock of Los Angeles, Calif.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Shawgo Memorial Home with Laurence Royer officiating.
Burial was in the Bader cemetery.

Obituary for Laura Beam McLaren

Death has struck in the community again, with the passing of one of our oldest residents, Mrs. Laura
McLaren, on Saturday at the Schmitt Memorial hospital in Beardstown. She was taken there by ambulance on
Saturday and passed away at three o'clock. She had been very poorly for several years, failing faster since
the death of her husband, Ed, in 1963. Mrs. McLaren was born Laura Jane Beam to John George and Harriet
Litchford Beam on Feb. 19, 1872. She married Edgar McLaren on May 15, 1900. She had resided on the farm just
east of Bader since the time of her marriage to Ed. She has been quite a care for her family who were
faithful in their devotion to her at all times. Her funeral was held on Tuesday at the Shawgo Memorial Home
in AStoria with Bro. Laurence Royer officiating. The interment was in the Bader cemetery. Mr. and Mrs.
Merle McLaren of Westmont came Saturday to remain until after the funeral at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
Hoke. On Monday evening they spent!

d Mrs. Paul Winston of near Astoria. Laura was over 90 years of age. She leaves to mourn her passing,
three children: Merle of Westmont, Ruth Hoke of near Bader and Hildreth Cassel of Bader; seven grandchildren
and four great grandchildren; besides one brother, Homer Beam; and two sisters, Mrs. Florence Venters of
Carlinville and Mrs. Ida Venters of Virden. Our deepest sympathy is extended to both the McLaren relatives.

Obituary for Claire Johnson Beam

Claire Johnson Beam, son of Homer and Edith Beam was born Nov. 12,1906 departed this life Dec. 26, 1918,
aged 12 years, 1 month and 18 days. He leaves a father, mother, three sisters, Gladys, Beulah and Julia
May, one brother, Ralph.
Claire contracted influenza and was very sick only 4 days, when death claimed his young happy life. He
was such a bright boy, full of good deeds and the pride of a father's heart and mother's hopes, but Claire
has left a bright light to burn forever in the minds of home folks, left here. He was of a disposition to
win the love of his playmates and attract men to admire him. He was a true soldier in way of obedience,
marking his life at home. His helping hand and wiling feet, which were always ready to help mama and papa
will be no more. Among those of the family, who will miss him most will be his little brother, Ralph, who
was his constant companion, wherever he went on his trips thru the woods and across the fields on the farm.
Claire was a real boy in every sense of the word growing up to be a real man. But he was called away to
other service in the Heavenly Kingdom. Claire was in regular attendance at the Sunday school and his
presence will be greatly missed. Bri!

Funeral services for James WARDELL, 89, of Plymouth was held Thursday at 10 am. in the Cookson Funeral home in Plymouth. The Rev. James Weiss
officiated with interment in Palm cemetery south west of the city. Mr. WARDELL died Tuesday morning in McDonough District Hospital where he had been
a patient since Aug. 19.
He was born July 9, 1880, the son of Francis and Nancy ROBBINS WARDELL. He was married to the former Susie THRAP at Rushville.
He worked in the oil fields at Colmar from 1913-1920, then farmed near Rushville. He later operated a grocery store. Ten years ago he retired and moved to
Plymouth. He was a member of the Methodist church.
He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. B.G. DRAKE of Peoria; one brother, Earl of Santa Monica, Calif.; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren;
and two great- great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children, Hazel & Francis; three brothers, Lester, Sammy, and Henry; and two sisters, Myrtle and Lilly.

removed with her parents to Illinois. When married George W. GREGORY, Aug. 28, 1865 & she passed away Oct. 27, 1908 at the of 67 years, 4 months, 24
days. To this union was born 8 children, 2 dying in infancy, Liza J. & Nellie E. The surviving children are" Mrs. William BEDENBENDER, Mrs. George
WALLACE. William F., Thomas E., Lawrence E. & Alta M. Two sisters, Sarah & Jane preceded her in death. Also two brothers, William WARDELL and
Thomas E. of Chester ARK. She leaves her husband, 6 children, 11 grandchildren & two brothers besides a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Bainbridge Township conducted by Rev. J. G. Yeck & interment in the cemetery nearby.

Mrs. Dora Jane WARDELL, 80, of Macomb, former Schyuler county resident, died last Tuesday at McDonough District Hospital. She had been in failing
health for several years.
She was born April 22, 1887 in Bainbridge township, Schuyler County, the daughter of John and Loesa ICENOGLE VANCIL. She resided in this city until
moving to Macomb in 1919. She was a member of the Rushville Baptist Church.. In 1904 she was married to Fred Burton WARDELL. He died Oct 3, 1939.
Surviving are three children, William John WARDELL of Adair; Mrs. Ethel Mae GRAY of Rock Island; and Mrs. Mary WILKINS of Macomb; two brothers
Herman VANCIL of Hazel Park, Mich. and Homer VANCIL of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy GOODWIN of this city and Mrs. Hattie LISENBEE of
Macomb; three grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Two sons and a daughter died in infancy. Two brothers, Carl and Eber,
died previously.
Funeral services were held last Thursday at 2 pm. at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen chapel in Macomb with Rev. Cecil Swindle officiating. Burial was in
Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Bertha M. WARDELL, 84, of Macomb, formerly of Schuyler County died Sunday at McDonough Distrist Hospital in Macomb, IL.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1pm. at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell, IL. with burial in Palm Cemetery southwest of Rushville, IL..
She was born on Aug. 30, 1893, at Clayton, IL. a daughter of Perry and Rebecca GIDDINGS. She married Harry WARDELL on May 25. 1912, at Virginia,
IL. He died in August 1957.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Vera BOYD of Canton, IL; and six sons, Frank of Ellisville, IL., James of Santa Clara, Calif., Morris of Princeville, IL, Lyle of
Smithfield, IL., Harry of Florida, IL., and Charles of New Lenox, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Mrs. Bertha E. DAVIS, 87, of Astoria died Saturday at Culbertson Memorial hospital, where she was a patient one week.
Services were held at 1:30 pm. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial home in Astoria. The Rev. Wesley Wallace officiated and burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
She was born Aug 8, 1890, in Schuyler County, a daughter of Frederick and Julie E. INGLES WARDELL. She married Joseph D. DAVIS Dec 20, 1908, in
Schuyler County. He died March 12, 1971
Surviving are three sons. Orville, Whitney, and Harold, all of Astoria; four daughters, Mrs. Ruby SCROGUM and Mrs. Margaret DANNER, both of Astoria,
Mrs. Geneva BREWER of Havana and Mrs. Josephine BEHNKE of Bloomington; 35 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, three sons, five brothers, and four sisters.
Mrs. DAVIS was a member of the Astoria America Legion Auxiliary 25 and the Astoria United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Carl GREEN, 67, Dies Here Early Wednesday
Mrs. Julia WARDELL GREEN, 67, wife of Carl GREEN, a life long resident of Rushville, died Wednesday morning at 5 o'clock in her home in Rushville.
Mrs. GREEN was born October 5, 1892 the daughter of William and Judith INGLES WARDELL. She was married to Carl GREEN June 14, 1910. To this
union five children were born, James Kermit born in 1911 passed away at the age of 25 years. Kenneth Ralph of Dixon; Mildred Evelyn TYSON and Mary
Elizabeth TUTT both of Canton and Paul Russell GREEN of Wickenburg, Arizona.
Other survivors are 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers, Tom WARDELL of Galesburg and James WARDELL of Camden and two sisters,
Mrs. Bertha DAVIS of Astoria and Mrs. Gusta GREEN of Beardstown.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hardy-Roby Funeral Home.

Carl GREEN Dies; Rites To be held on Friday
Carl GREEN of the city passed away Wednesday at Culbertson Memorial Hospital where he had been admitted on Sunday.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2pm. at the Roby Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronald C. Colton officiating. Burial will be in Messerer Cemetery near
Pleasant View.
Mr. GREEN was born on Feb. 15, 1889, son of George and Ella GARRISON GREEN. He married Julia WARDELL on June 14, 1910. She passed away on
Oct 28, 1959. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Free Methodist church in Rushville.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth of Dixon, and Russell of Wickenberg, Arizona; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred TYSON and Mrs. Mary TUTT, both of
Canton; one sister, Mrs. Addie ABBOTT of this city; 11 grandchildren, One son, Kermit and three brothers are deceased.
Family will meet with friends after 7 pm. Thursday evening at the Roby Funeral Home.

Bessie L. Anderson, 78, of Browning, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Heritage Manor South, Beardstown.
She was born Feb. 25, 1922, at Tower Hill, the daughter of Jesse and Carrie (Nance) Ethridge.
She married David Earl Anderson on Oct. 16, 1941, in Tower Hill. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry F. (and LaTrisha) Anderson of Urbana, Ohio, and Donald (and Julie) Anderson of Springfield, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Rodney (Ruth I.) Simpson of Astoria; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Dorothy Clemons of Sarasota, Fla., Vera Robison of Pana, Dolly Pizzo of Pana, and Mrs. Lonnie (Betty) Reed of Pana.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond and David Anderson; two brothers, Charles and Robert Ethridge; and one sister, Mary Severe.
She was employed by Astoria Fibra-Steel Corp in Astoria for more than 10 years.
Graveside services were Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Beardstown City Cemetery with Rev. James Shirley officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of services.

Jerry E. "Banjo" Belville, 44, of Astoria, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
He was born Feb. 13, 1956, in Beardstown to Robert and Mary Lou Parsano Belville.
Surviving are his parents of Astoria; one son, Jim, of Astoria; one sister, Mrs. Daniel (Becky) Hamm of Astoria; and one nephew.
A member of the Iron Workers Local 112 in Peoria, he worked for River City Construction Company in Peoria.
He was a member of the Astoria Fire Department. He was a member of Ipava Sportsman's Club and the American Bowling Congress.
Services were Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Gary Sheets officiated. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.

Elsa E. Butler, 84, of Peoria, died Thursday Jan. 18, 2001, at Morton Terrace in Morton.
Born Nov. 5, 1916, in Rushville to Franklin Joseph and Flora Belle Payne Pelton, she married Cecil F. Butler on Aug. 3, 1935, in Keokuk, Iowa. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Harold (and Marie) of East Peoria; and several nieces and nephews.
She worked as a clerk at WABCO for 18-1/2 years, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the WABCO Retirees Club.
She was a member of Glen Oak Christian Church and the Golden Circle Class.
Services were Monday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Wilton Mortuary. The Rev. Dwight Winnett officiated. Burial was in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.

He was born Aug. 27, 1942, in Rushville, the son of Martin D. "Bill" and Bertha Claassen. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, "Dean," and two nephews.
He is survived by his friend, Bob Briggs of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, George William Claassen and Martin Claassen, Jr., both of Rushville; four sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Dorothy) Reeder of Rushville; Shirley Leverton of Mt. Sterling; Mrs. Hill (Opal) Richter of Lewistown; and Mrs. Richard (Elizabeth) Etter of Rushville; one uncle, Clarence A. Norton of Rushville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation has been accorded.
A memorial service will be held later this summer.

Yvonne E. Clemens, 78, of Ipava, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Buda, the daughter of Donald and Elmy (Kjellenberger) Worley.
She married Maurice D. Clemens. He died in October of 1974.
She also was preceded in death by one brother Clyde Oliver, and one sister, Elsie Billeaux.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Connie) Ford of Ipava; two sons, Jerry (and LuElla) Sears of Seneca and Clyde Clemens of Ipava; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Ipava American Legion Auxiliary and Ipava Order of the Eastern Star #226, and had been a dispatcher for the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.
Services were Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at the Ipava Christian Church with Pastor Kevin Kessler officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava was in charge of services.

She was born Dec. 17, 1918, in Fulton County, the daughter of Verner C. Darel and Goldie Alverta (Sowers) Smith.
She married Darrell K. "Bud" Cluney on Dec. 20, 1936 in Astoria. He survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Melba Jean) Lindsey of Astoria, Mrs. Willis (Judith) Mason of Springfield, Ohio and Mrs. Ronald (Mary) Herrera of Auburn, Calif.; two sons, Kenneth (and Judy) Cluney of Chillicothe and Terry (and Carol) Cluney of Peoria; one sister, Marie Roudebush of Rushville; one brother, Albert (and Delores) Smith of Havana; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Dalbert Smith; two sisters, Pearl Workman and Evelyn Rowe and one grandson.
She was a member of the Astoria Christian Church and the Astoria Sunshine Club. She was a homemaker and served as an election judge in Woodland Township for many years.
Services were held Tuesdsy, Jan. 30, 2001, at the Astoria Christian Church with Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was at Summum Cemetery. Memorials may be made to McDonough District Hospital Hospice Programs or to her church. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of services.

Hazel D. Dean, 79, of Kirkwood, died Jan. 26, 2001, at her home.
She was born June 22, 1921, in Rushville, the daughter of Jess Ferris and Unoma Belle Cooper Prunty. She attended Rushville schools through high school. She later attended cosmetology school in Burlington, Iowa.
She married John W. Dean on April 9, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He died May 5, 1980.
She moved to Kirkwood at the age of 18 and had been a beautician and cosmetologist in the Kirkwood area for many years. She was a member of the Kirkwood United Methodist Church, and formerly a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed gardening and animals.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda Dean of Kirkwood; one son, Byron J. Dean (wife, Barbara) of Monmouth; six grandchildren; and one sister, Julia Allen of Rushville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, and six brothers and sisters.
A funeral service for Hazel Dean was held Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, with Rev. William Renner officiating. Interment was in the Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood.
A memorial is being established for the Kirkwood United Methodist Church.

Frances Edna Demaree, 79, of rural Rushville, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, 1/4 mile south of Rushville on U.S. Rt. 67, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.
She was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Graham, Va., to the late Garrett II and Edna Virginia Doyle Wyatt. She married William M. Demaree Dec. 8, 1944, in Upper Marlboro, Md. He also died Friday.
Surviving are one son, William W. Demaree (wife Carol) of rural Rushville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Peters of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rushville. She worked at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville since its beginning and still did volunteer work at the nursing home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville with Rev. Scott Henley officiating. Burial will be in the Rushville City Cemetery. The Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of services.

William Morris Demaree, 77, of rural Rushville, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at the Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was born April 7, 1923, in Rushville to the late Morris H. and Nell E. Sevier Demaree. He married Frances E. Wyatt Dec. 8, 1944 in Upper Marlboro, Md. She also died on Friday.
Surviving are one son, William W. Demaree (wife Carol) of rural Rushville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Jackson of Jefferson City, Mo.; and two brothers, Danny Demaree of Columbia, Mo., and Dwight Demaree of Rushville.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rushville, was a 50-year member and past Master of Rushville Lodge No. 9 A.F. and A.M.; the Schuyler American Legion Post 4, and was a former member of the Rushville State Bank Board of Directors. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of WW II and a life long farmer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville with Rev. Scott Henley officiating. Burial will be in the Rushville City Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of the arrangements.

Dale C. Hamm, 84, of Bath, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.
Born Aug. 27, 1916, in Bluff City to Petie and Maye Curless Hamm, he married Betty Heckelbeck on Jan. 7, 1970, in Macomb. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Ronald and Donald, both of Peoria; two daughters, Carolyn Tarvin of Astoria and Marilyn Ford of Canton; one brother, Petie of Browning; two sisters, Glenna Hursh of Havana and Wanda Miller of Astoria; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Four brothers preceded him in death.
A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Havana Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6408.
A carpenter and a brick mason, he had been a foreman for R.G. LeTourneau in Peoria. He also had owned and operated the Boat Tavern in Bath and had worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation.
He was a 32nd degree Mason.
An avid hunter and fisherman, he wrote the book, "The Last of the Market Hunters."
Services were held Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, The Rev. Jack Lawrence officiated. Burial was in Sheldon's Grove Cemetery near Browning.

She married Phillip M. Howell on Oct. 1, 1936, in Peoria. He survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Hattie Sowers, and step-sister, Jean Finch.
She was a member of Ipava Christian Church and later the Ipava Presbyterian Church, and was a homemaker.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at the Ipava United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gordon Jones officiating. Born Feb. 21, 1950, in Canton to Charles and Myra Armstrong Martin, she married Dennis Gene Mortland. She later married Bruce W. Kost on June 18, 1995, in Nassau, Bahamas. He survives.
Also surviving are her mother, Myra Smith of Canton; two sons, David A. Mortland of Peoria and Danny G. Mortland of Canton; one step-son, Brian N. Kost of Vermont; one step-daughter, Stacey K. (husband, Pete) Savage of Beardstown; one grandson; three step-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Enders and Jeaninne (husband, Gary) Murphy, both of Canton; one brother, Michael (wife, Jeanie) Martin of Morehead City, N.C. and one step-brother, Dan (wife, Melanie,) Smith of Canton.
She was preceded in death by her father, step-father, Hiram Smith, and one grand-daughter, Kimberly Mortland.
She was a 1968 graduate of Canton High School in Canton.
Mrs. Kost had worked as the bookkeeper for KRX Trucking in Vermont for the past nine years. She previously had worked for the ACPM Podiatry Group at their Canton office for six years as a bookkeeper.
She attended the Northwoods Community Church in Peoria.
Private services will be Saturday in Morehead City, N.C.

She was born April 21, 1902, in Havana, the daughter of Hart and Carrie (Markley) Baumgartner.
She married Walter Milleson on Feb. 5, 1927, in Havana. He died Dec. 20, 1976.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Surviving are two daughters, Sue Ann Touchett of Lebanon, Ohio, and Barbara Roll of Clermont, Fla.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Norene Derry of Peoria, Mrs. Robert (Emily) Curless of Astoria, and Wilma Weber of Cuba.
She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Clermont, where she was a former assistant treasurer. She also was a member of the South Lake Hospital Auxiliary, the South Lake County Meals on Wheels and past president of the Emerald Lakes Women's Club.
She had been an operator for Western Union.

Clarence W. Paisley, 85, of Beardstown, formerly of Rushville, died Wednesday Jan. 3, 2001, at the Heritage Manor South Nursing Home in Beardstown.
He was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Schuyler County to the late Earl and Elizabeth Tharp Paisley. He married Velma P. Guyman, Oct. 17, 1935, in Chester. She died March 13, 1982. He then married Nina Young Graham Oct. 17, 1983, in Rushville. She died May 6, 1987. He later married Gertrude Floyd Nov. 13, 1993, in Beardstown. She died July 10, 1997.
Surviving are one son, Richard Paisley; three step-sons, William Graham of Springfield, Ricky Cooksey of Beardstown and Larry Tucker of Springfield, three step-daughters, Lou Ann Winston of Rushville, Dorothy Dody of Mason City and Betty Bradley of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Carol Paisley of Sanford, N.C.; one sister, Audrey Lococo of Diamond Head, MS; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, David.
Mr. Paisley was a plumber and electrician, working with numerous plumbing firms in Rushville, retiring in 1987.
Funeral services were held Friday at the Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Wayne Bonser officiating. Burial was in the Rushville City Cemetery.

She married Walter S. Richey on Aug. 25, 1925, in Lewistown. He died Jan. 10, 1991. She was born June 23, 1911, in McDonough County, the daughter of Jeff and Carie (Mershon) Teel.
She is survived by six sons: Walter of New Philadelphia, Lyle of Adair, and Willard, Jim, Dale and Theodore, all of Vermont; three daughters, Nelda Reid of Canton, Mary Ann Plate of Adair, and Linda Short of Clarendon, Texas; two half sisters, Betty Teel of Arizona, and June Demey of Damme, Ohio; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Charles; a daughter, Rosemarie; one grandson; one great-grandson; and three brothers, Ted, Henry, and Willard.
She was a former member of Vermont Rebekah Lodge and worked at the Vermont Foundry, retiring in 1973.
Services were held at the Kost Memorial Home on Tuesday, Feb. 6, with Rev. Ron Green officiating. Burial was at Vermont Cemetery.

Teresa Ann Smith, 92, of Bethalto, formerly of Vermont, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Villa Rose Retirement in Bethalto.
She was born March 4, 1908, in Vermont, the daughter of Charles and Clara (Rankin) Amrine.
She married Emery E. Smith on Oct. 16, 1954, in Vermont. He died April 30, 1980.
She is survived by one son, Monte Eugene Welker of Godfrey and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy Sue Welker, one granddaughter, Cynthia Carol Welker, one stepbrother, Edgar Amrine and one sister, Lucille Smith.
She had been employed as a store clerk. She was a life member of the Vermont Christian Church and was a 50 year member of Harmony Rehekah Lodge 53. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Modern Woodmen and Vermont American Legion Auxiliary.
Services were held Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Vermont Christian Church with the Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Burial was in the Vermont Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Vermont Christian Church.

Wayne Trimble, 75, of Peoria, formerly of Rushville, passed away Monday, January 8, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in Danville.
Born on February 11, 1925, in Rushville, the son of the late Roy and Edna (Courtwright) Trimble. He married Rosemary McCombs on October 23, 1949 in Rushville and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Roy Trimble of Metamora, one daughter, Ruthanne Burgard, and husband, Kevin, of Monticello, four grandchildren, Emily, Alyssa, John and Michael Burgard, two brothers, Paul Trimble and wife Bernadine of Rushville, and Charles Trimble and wife Caroline of Versailles, Kentucky.
A WW II Navy veteran, he graduated from St. Louis Mortuary College in 1948 and served as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. He was a city letter carrier for 26 years and a rural letter carrier for six years in Rushville retiring in February 1981.
He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Rural Letter Carriers Association, the National Letter Carriers Association, Masonic Lodge #9 A.F. & A.M., Schuyler American Legion Post #4.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville with Rev. Karen Merrick officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville. Garnet Irene Bell, 73, of Beardstown, died at her home on Monday, March 5, 2001.
She was born May 20, 1927, at Montpelier, Ohio, to John and Olive Huston Kizer.
She graduated from Pioneer (Ohio) High School in 1946. She married Robert C. Grimes in Ohio on Sept. 2, 1946. She moved to Beardstown in 1950, and lived there since then, except for two years in Ohio.
She is survived by three sons, G. Douglas Grimes of Waukegan, Jeffrey C. Grimes of Center Hill, Fla., and Todd B. Grimes (wife, Linda) of Azle, Texas; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Opal (husband. Marshall) Kosier of Kunkle, Ohio. She was preceded in death by one son, Michael R. Grimes, of Beardstown, in January, 2000, her parents, two brothers, and three sisters in Ohio.
She worked 30 years as a waitress at the Arrow Restaurant and the Virginia Country Club, and as manager at The Cove. In 1970, she received a certificate as a licensed, practical nurse, and practiced at nursing homes in Beardstown, Rushville, and Williams County, Ohio.
She was an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown for 40 years. In recent years, she enjoyed traveling and attending local sporting events.
She will be cremated, with arrangements made by Cline-Goodwin Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown on Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at 11 a.m., followed by a remembrance luncheon in the church's fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to First Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Mildred Elizabeth Gibboney, 89, of Table Grove, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at the Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb.
She was born in Table Grove on July 16, 1911, the daughter of Harrison and Ollie Mae Rector Strode.
She married Leonard M. Gibboney on Sept. 17, 1932, in Macomb. He died Feb. 17, 1983. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Stroad Ham, and one foster brother, Eldon Kendrick.
She is survived by one god-son, Arrel Keating of Treasure Island, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Table Grove High School and from Liberty Beauty School in Peoria. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Table Grove for eight years. She and her husband then moved to Milwaukee, Wisc., where she was employed by Federal Department Stores in the capacity of personnel supervision for 24 years. She retired in 1970 and moved back to Table Grove to care for her parents. She was a member of the Table Grove Community Church, AF & AM Shrine Triple Eye Temple in Milwaukee and was a member of the Illinois Cosmetology Association.
Funeral services were Tuesday at the Table Grove Community Church with Rev. Frank Bush officiating and burial was in the Harris Cemetery, Table Grove. Kost Memorial Home in Vermont was in charge of the arrangements.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Murphy, and one sister, Patricia Davis.
She was a cook at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul and also worked as a clerk in various craft stores. She was a charter member of the Women of the Moose No. 2714 in Rushville. She enjoyed sewing and making crafts.

Mrs. Monson was born on August 24, 1939, in Bluffs, Ill. She was the daughter of Robert and Maggie (Woten) Kenyon. She married William "Bill" C. Monson Dec. 9, 1960. He survives.

Vincent H. "Rip" VanWinkle, 84, of Augusta, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Littleton, the son of Ross and Cora (Salsbury VanWinkle. He married Vivian Lease on Nov. 19, 1936, in Schuyler County. She preceded him in death.
He was a retired road commissioner of Augusta Township, for 20 years. He also owned and operated Rip's Cafe in Plymouth and Augusta.
He attended Schuyler County schools.
He was a lifetime member of Augusta VFW Post #9029, charter member of the Argyle Steam Engine Club and served as chief of the Augusta Fire Department for many years. He was a navy veteran of W.W. II and the Korean War.
Survivors include two daughters, Kerlene Bushaw (husband Bill) of Macomb and Vicki Carriger (husband Jack) of Augusta; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gene VanWinkle of Milan.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby VanWinkle, in infancy.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, in Sunset Cemetery in Quincy with Rev. Patsy Spratt officiating. Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the WW II Veterans Memorial Fund.

Don Charles Zeigler, formerly of Schuyler County, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Elmhurst Hospital in Elmhurst, Ill.
He was born March 20, 1910, on a farm in Browning Township, the youngest son of Calvin and Emma Lenhart Zeigler.
Always an artist, his pen and ink sketches were in the Rushville Times when he was attending Rushville High School. He graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1928. After graduation, he went to Chicago where he graduated from Chicago Art Institute with a degree in commercial art in advertising. His career continued with the firm of Potter and Zeigler until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, his parents, one brother, Alfred Zeigler of Galesburg, and one sister, Mrs. Charles (Grace) Orwig of Frederick. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. George (Diane) Wright of New York City, N.Y.
Cremation rites were accorded, with memorial services held Saturday, March 3, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Elmhurst.

Mary Ruth Phillips, daughter of
Charles H. and Eliza Phillips, was
born in Schuyler county, Illinois, on
Oct. 6, 1907, and passed sway at
the Marietta Phelps Hospital at Macomb,
Ill. on Nov. 10, 1928, at the age
of 27 years, 1 month, and 5 days.
About three weeks ago Ruth took
sick and gradually grew worse. All
that her loving husband and relatives,
and friends could do was done to
relieve her suffering. But the Master's
voice called her, leaving us to mourn
her departing, but to rejoice that
we had been allowed the friendship
of such a woman.
On Dec. 3, 1920, she united in marriage to Lloyd Hall of Colchester,
Illinois. To this union two children
were born, Duane Lloyd and Bettie
Jean.
Besides the grief stricken husband
and her two small children, she
leaves to mourn her departure the
following relatives: her father and
mother, her brother Fred Phillips,
and her sister Mrs. Minnie Breeden,
all of Macomb, Ill., also two
little nephews, who were unusually
found of their aunt Ruth.
Rugh was a devoted wife and
mother, trying always to render her
love and care for her family, relatives
and friends which will be keenly
missed in the home.

Lena Faye Yound
Lena Faye Young, only daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Yound of Woodstock township, departed this life Sunday morning, January 16 at the age of eleven years, five months and four days, after a few months illness of
tuberculosis. All that living hands could do for her was done, but of no avail.
Faye was of a kind and loving disposition, always greeting her little playmates with a smile. She loved to go to school and Sunday School as long as her health would permit.
Her mother preceded her in death some eighteen months ago. Besides her grief-stricken father and step-mother, she leaves to mourn her loss two brothers, Wayne and Lloyd,
her grandfather, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services, conduct by Rev. George P. Snyder, were held from Memorial Chapel, Monday afternoon. Interment is the Palm cemetery.
We desire to thank our neighbors and friends for their kindness and assistance during the sickness and death of our daughter---Frank Yound and Families.

Miss Margaret Belle Tolle
Miss Margaret Belle Tolle, only daughter of John S. and Jennie Tolle, was born in Rushville township, Schuyler County, Illinois, October 3, 1885, and died at her home on South
Liberty Street, Monday afternoon, July 26, 1915, aged 29 years, 9 months and 23 days.
Her illness extended over a period of several months, during which time she suffered greatly from cancer. She was given untiring attention by her mother, brother, relatives and
friends, and greatly appreciated the many kind acts in her behalf.
She became a member of the Baptist church shortly after the death of her father two years ago and found reeat comfort in reading eht Bible.
She is survived by her mother, one brother Joseph, and two half-brothers, Charles and William Phillips, and one half-sister Mrs. Malinda Smith of Bynumville, Mo.
Funeral Services, conducted by Rev. Charles Garrison, were held Wenesday afternoon at the Baptist chuyrch in this city. Interment was in the Rushville cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Tomlinson
Mrs Mary Bessie Tomlinson, daught of Mrs. Amanda Waugh, was born in Schuyler county August 28, 1882, and died at her home in Rushville on Nov 2. 1918, she being 36 years 2
months and 5 days of age.
She was united in marriage to James L. Tomlinson, August 23, 1905, and to this union one daughter and a son were born namely Elsie Gladys, and Gelen Clinton
She was sick only a few days when he was called away to the world beyond. Her life was crowned by a beautiful and devoted wifehood and motherhood. She was the heart of her
home, to her husband and children: she was always cheerful and gave gladness to all who were near her and will be greatly missed by many friends.
She leaves to mourn her loss a husband and two children, a mother, three brothersand two sisters. James, Charlie and Louis Waugh, Mrs. Eliza Phillips, Mrs. Ollie Young.
Besides a host of relatives and friends. Her father proceded her in death. Funeral services conducted by Rev. H. W. Stillman were held Sunday afternoon aat the Rushville
cemetery, Whjere interment was made
Obituary for Martha Jane Mace
Martha Jane Mace, daughter of Joseph and Nancy Mace, was born in Schuyler County, Illinois on May 5, 1850, and departed this life at Browning, Illinois on January 15, 1914, being at the time of her death, 63 years, 8 mo and 10 days of age. She was united in marriage to Martin Wright on Dec 12, 1862. To this union was born two children, Mrs. Carrie Rogers living near Astoria and Sammie dying at the age of 4 years. -- Many years ago she became a Christian and united with the Baptist church at Ridgeville, but later united with the Methodist Church at Browning. She leaves to mourn her departure, a husband and daughter, Mrs. Carrie Rogers, two granddaughters, Mrs. Nellie Gibbons of Chicago and Faye Rogers of Astoria, one great-grandson, Roger Edwin Gibbons of Chicago; one sister, Mrs. Addie Stroops of Astoria and one brother, Aurelius Mace of St Francis, Kansas, besides a number of distant relatives and friends. Mrs. Wright has been in poor health for the past three years, but she was of a kind and patient disposition and bore her afflictions without complaint, until death relieved her of her sufferings. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Miller at 10 o'clock Saturday. Interment was in the Ridgeville Cemetery.
