NANCY J.WELLS was
born in Indiana, October 27, 1826. She
was marriedto HENRY DAVIS, January 26, 1846.
Two children were born to them, one of
which, ISAAC DAVIS, is still living.
Her husband died January 27, 1850.
She was married to JOHN THIXTON in October
1852. Five children were born to them, three
of which (JOHN, FRANK, and HENRY) survive
her. MR. THIXTON died May 24, 1867.
She was then left a widow in poverty, with a
family of children depending upon her.
She struggled hard against great odds and
provided for them till they wereall grown.
It then fell to her lot to take five
grand-children and start anew in her
struggles against poverty and want.
Last of all she took a brother's child,
ORPHA WELLS, the little girl who has been
her willing helper in age, and who
ministered to her so cheerfully and
faithfully in
her last sufferings. She suffered
intensely, and only a day or two before her
death she fell and broke her arm. Her
sufferings were full and the ! Lord
gave her sweet release. She was
converted and joined the Baptist Church,
south, and was a faithful and devoted member
till death, which occurred May 15, 1894.
In all her reverses and adversities of life
she had a firm faith in God and manifested a
spirit of submission worthy of imitation.
She rests from her labors.
The funeral was preached from 2 Timothy
4:6-8 at the M.E. Church, South, by the
writer, and remains were taken to the Davis
cemetery for interment. -- G. M.
