Elizabeth Noble
Elizabeth, the second daughter of Richard and Lutishea Noble, was born
on a farm south of Rushville, May 28, 1846, died at her home on North Congress street, Thursday, April 12, after an illness of
about two weeks. Her health had been declining for years, but as long as possible she kept busy with her accustomed
tasks.
Her father, mother, brother Geo. W., and three sisters, Mary Ellen,
Eliza and Emma, preceded her to the great beyond, one devoted sister, Nettie Newkirk, survives.
Elizabeth was a woman of persistent industry, little known beyond her
home circle. Here she and her sister Nettie lived for nearly twenty years. After the death of her sister, Mrs. R. M. Rose, she gave
much attention to her sister's children, especially Robert, who at the time of his mother's death was but two years old. As far as
possible she gave gave him a mother's loving care, teaching him his first bible lesson.
Elizabeth Noble read her bible and was acquainted with its precepts.
During her late sickness she asker for her bible, but found her eyesight had failed her so she could not read it. A short time
before her death a friend asked her if she remembered the twenty-third Psalm. She replied, "I repeat it every night and morning."
and tried with her failing strength to say the familiar words.
May we not believe that in the valley and shadow, the Good Shepherd was
with her and she feared no evil.
