Obituary for JAMES W. TWEDDELL
January 20, 1932
JAMES W. TWEDDELL, son of McCajah Tweddell and wife was born in Hardin county, Kentucky, Sept.6 18-- and departed this
life in Jacksonville state hospital Jan. 11, 1932, being 87 years, 4 months and 5 days.
He was one of four children, two girls and two boys, all of whom have preceded him in death. He received his meager
education in the country schools of Kentucky.
About the age of eighteen years he enlisted in the army and fought all thru the Civil war, returning home at the close of
the conflict.
About the year 1867 he was united in marriage to Mary Aley Bush. To this union were born seven children, Samuel M. of
Beardstown, Mrs. Debbie Goodin of Canton, Benjamin of Utah, Sarah C. Goodin of Beardstown, William H. of Peoria, and Elijah and James
of Beardstown. The seven children were all raised to maturity by the earnest and hard-working father thru the many hardships our
forefathers endured.
About the year 1906 Mr. Tweddell and wife came to Illinois where the children all resided and located on a farm in
Browning township, where they resided with the son Elijah, for several years. They moved to Rushville, where they resided until the
death of his companion July 31, 1920. Then he removed with his daughter, Sarah C. Goodin, to Beardstown where he continued to make
his home with the exception of a few weeks stay in Jacksonville state hospital. 1 - 20 -32
He is survived by the seven children, twenty-six grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. While not identified
with any church by membership, he made a profession about seventeen years ago to which faith he always held and always attended
services as long as health would permit.
Funeral services were held from the Christian Neck community building Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Internment
was in the Roudebush cemetery nearby.
