John S. Sparks
Was born near Rushville, Ill., Dec. 11,1854, and died at his home near Huntsville, June 24, 1911, aged 56 years, 6 months and 13 days.  He spent all of these years in Schuyler county save about three years, when he lived in Kansas; also a short time in Hancock and Adams counties.
He was married to Ida B. Galliber, of Dodge City Kan.; Dec. 9, 1886.  To this union were born two sons and two daughters-Glen B., Nellie B., Loyd W., and Lola M., all of whom are living.
He accepted Christ as his personal Savior while a young man living near Brooklyn, Ill., and joined the M. P. church, and about seven years ago he united with the M. E. church in Augusta.  From there he took his membership to Elm Grove on the LaPraire circuit, and about four years ago his membership was transferred to Huntsville, where he remained a faithful member until it pleased God to call his servant home.
He began to fail in health last December and was compelled to quit work the first of April last.  During the weeks of his declining health he was able to attend church but very little.  Even the scarcely able, he was present on the morning of the dedication of our new church, May 14.  ON Tuesday following he took to his bed and was confined to it from that time on.
Brother Sparks loved his home, loved his church, loved his God and seldom, if ever, let an opportunity go by with out rising to his feed and giving his testimony, showing those around him that he belonged to Christ.
He leaves to mourn his wife and four children, and aged father and mother, of Lewiston, Mo., one brother, Lafe C. of Calwich, Kans., three sisters, Mrs. Mary Clark of Roosevelt, Okla., Mrs. Lottie Burmood of Woodriver, Neb., Amanda at home, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in the M. E. church at Huntsville, conducted by his pastor, Rev. H. R. Kasiske, after which the body was laid to rest in the Woodlawn cemetery at Augusta.
