Mrs. Emily Parker-Gilbert, of Galesburg, who passed away a few days ago at the home of a daughter near Gilson, was the youngest child of one of Galesburg’s very first families, her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Lucius Parker, being members of the small band of easterners who met in New York city 100 years ago and planned to come to this part of Illinois and establish a city and college. Rev. Parker built the first home in Galesburg in the year 1836 and was one of the first Congregational ministers to preach in Knox county. The college they founded is Knox college, first planned as a theological seminary.
