Funeral Rites For Mrs. Harriet E. Reeve

Mrs. Harriet E. Reeve, widow of the late William Henry Reeve, a well-known and honored resident of Rushville, passed away at her home on North Jackson Street, Saturday morning , July 14, 1934, after an illness of six weeks.

Funeral services weere held at the M. E. Church, Monday July 16th at 2:30 p. m. Rev. Laren Spear officiating clergyman.  Internment in the Rushville Cemetery.

Mrs. Harriet E. Ackley-Reeve, daughter of Nathan and Pauline Ackley, was born January 31, 1852, near Quincy, IL. She received her education at Hedding College, Abington, IL and after graduation taught school in the rural districts for a number of years.

In her youth she united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and later in life became a member of the Rushville Methodist Episcopal Church.  She was always present at Sunday school and church when her health permitted.

Mrs. Reeve was united in marriage with William Henry Reeve, March 31, 1879, who preceded her in death, July 15, 1923.  They went to housekeeping on the old Reeve homestead and resided there until they moved to Rushville in 1907.  To this union were born three children, who died in infancy.  In later years, they took into their home an adopted daughter, Ruth, who has more than repaid the love and kindness bestowed upon her, by her loving  sacrificial care during the life of Mrs. Reeve and especially during the last illness. An own daughter could not have done more.

Mrs. Reeve possessed a kindly Christian Spirit, which radiated like the perfume of a fragrant flower.

She is survived by one brother, Roe Ackley, and one sister Mrs. James Davis, of Golden, IL, besides several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

The following relatives and friends from a distance were here Monday to attend the funeral services of Mrs. Harriet Reeve: J. Madison Reeve, William H. Reeve, and Fred Reeve of El Dara, IL; Elijah Needham of Virginia; Mr. and Mrs. Roe Ackley and daughter, Bernice, Miss Columbia Wright and Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson, all of Golden.
