12th Infantry


Three years service - This regiment was first called into service under proclamation of the President, April 16, 1861. It was organized at Springfield and mustered into service April 30, 1861, by captain Pope, for three months, after which term it reenlisted for three years service. The regiment was in many hard fought battles, losing in all, killed in the field and died of wounds--145. It was mustered out July 14, 1865.
