This regiment was organized in February, 1862, at Chicago. Arno Vass was its first colonel; it formed a part of the
grand army of the department of the Mississippi, and, in pursuance of general order, issued March 2d, 1865, it was consolidated into an eight company organization.
Hasbrock Davis became colonel.
