Emanuel Hinderer Letter
to his daughter Emma,
April 14, 1897

Emanuel had excellent penmanship and his words are pure prose.
Quite an accomplishment for a man who emigrated to America at 15 years of age with his older sister Louise.
He spoke only German, but managed to become fluent in English, learned the trade of shoe making, farmed,
served a term as Frederick's representative on the Schuyler County board of supervisors,
and late in life became the U.S. Postmaster in Frederick.
Submitted by John Gillespie.
