Company D, 115th IllinoisVolunteer Infantry

Pvt. MICHAEL DACE; was born in Rich Woods, Mo., in 1839, and was brought up on a farm until 18 years of age. After that he served an apprenticeship as a wagon maker. In August, 1860, he came to Rushville, Ill., for two years. He enlisted in Company D at its organization and served as a private until the final muster out in June, 1865. His life as a soldier was characterized by coolness and bravery, and nothing pleases him more now than to relate to his children, and others, those deeds of valor that were enacted on the field or in camp during the time of his service. After his discharge he returned to Rushville, and again followed farming for more than twelve years. Being disabled by rheumatism, which prevented him from further following that occupation, he took up the carpenter's trade and has followed it ever since. He now resides at Rushville. He has always been faithful to his country, and is a staunch Republican.
