Below is what I found about his service record at the National
Archives
in Washington, D.C.

Enlisted at Rushville, IL 19 July 1862.
He listed himself as a farmer,
age 21. His papers note that he had gray eyes, dark hair, dark
complexion and was 6 feet 1 inch tall. His papers were signed by M.D.S.
Manlove, recruiting officer. He was inducted at Springfield, IL on the same
date by Col. Morrison.
He joined Co. G 16 Regt IL for service on August 19, 1862 at
Springfield, IL. He was put on detached
service as Brig. teamster G.O.
No. 4, for which he was paid a $3.00 premium. He served in that
capacity his entire time of military service.
The record states:
"Detachment Muster Roll of a man employed on extra duty in 2 m dept.;
Station: camps in the field; Remarks: Co. C Teamster G.O. No 4 Par II
1st Brig 2d Div 14 A.C."
He was mustered out by order of War Dept. on June 12, 1865. He was last
paid to August 31, 1863. His clothing account was last settled on June
30, 1863. Amount paid him for clothing in kind or money since last
settlement was $121.86. Bounty paid was $25.00; due $75.00. He was paid in
full to October 31, 1864 by Robert Smith, Pay Master.
David married Sarah Ann Long in Schuyler Co. 12 Aug 1866 and moved to
Kansas in 1870. He later moved to Joplin, Jasper Co., MO where he died 6
Jan 1875.
