The Rushville Times, August 11, 1999
The descendants of D. M. and Florence Tomlinson gathered Aug. 1-8, at the homeplace, 125 E. Clinton St., in Rushville for the 25th annual reunion and hog roast. Family and friends traveled from as far as Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Los Angeles, Calif., and points in between to take part in the activities.
Although cooking, baking and eating are major highlights of the gathering, there were several other activities throughout the week. On Tuesday evening, a private family swim party was held at the Scripps Park Pool. Thursday, a large group traveled to Grafton to spend the day at Raging Rivers Water Park. During the week, Gale Tomlinson provided material and guidance for doing bead work, making necklaces and bracelets and so forth. Friday supper was the annual fish fry, followed by singing around the campfire with guitar played by Rick Law of Oswego. As always, the hog roast was held Saturday afternoon with many friends of the family attending as well. A family worship service concluded the week Sunday morning in the back yard of the family home.
Two family members have spent untold hours throughout the past year and during the reunion week gathering and researching information on the family genealogy. Kraig Tomlinson of Dayton, Ohio, (grandson of the late Francis and Wilma Tomlinson of Rushville) and Tina Townsend of Phoenix, Ariz., (daughter of J. P. and Sharon Tomlinson of Rushville) posted a huge computer printout showing the lineage of the Samuel Tomlinson family which included everyone present.
Everyone enjoyed locating themselves and tracing things back to Samuel, as well as discussing stories and histories.
