Served as a soldier in the Calvery lead by Captain James Pollock as part of the Delaware Militia Troop of Horse. This unit accompanied Captain Thomas Rodney's Dover Light Infantry Company which was assigned to General Cadwalader's Philadelphia Troops, joined i the expedition against Bordentown, marched to Trenton and assisted in the capture of Princeton. This information from the Delaware Archives Military and Naval Records Vol. II pages 773, 774, 775 and on record with the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The following is the last will and testament of James Willey Sr. as recorded in the Wetzel Co., WV records:
State of Virginia Wetzel County to wit: I James Willey Senr. knowing the uncertainty of this mortal Life and being at this time of sound mind and memory Thanks be to God for his mercys desiring to arange all my temporal of _____ after recommending my sole to God my Great Creator make this my Last will and testament revoking all other wills or dipositions of my real or personal estate I do hereby give to my two Daughers Sarah & Phebe Willey all my houshould and kitchn furneture together with all my goods and chattles inside my household also all my livestock farming utensils also in addition one hundred and forty five acres of land for which I have executed a deed of Conveyance to them I will and bequeath to them fifty five acres of Land of the lower end of a survey of land lying on the north side of the land deeded to my two daughters afor said & to join said land the Balance of my lands which I have3 not heretofore appropriated & not included in this will I reserve to be sidposed by my self but if not sold in my lifetime I appoint my son Absolam Willey as my Excutor to sell said land & after paying himself I defire the balance of the procedes to equally divided between my two daughters Sarah & Phebe & my two granddaughters jermima Willey Daughter of Absolam Willey and Rachael Willey Daughter of William Willey signed sealed and acknowledged this 24th day of Jun in the year of our Lord 1853.

Wetzel county July Term July 5th 1853.  The Last will and testament of James Willey deceased was proved by the oaths of james G. West and Lucretia Higginbotham of the suscribing witnesses thereto and there upon the said will was ordered to be recorded.

In Tyler County, WV that shows James Willey marrying Rebecca Watson on November 27, 1825.  Is this James Sr.?  His son James only married once.

James is in the 1850 Wetzel Co., VA census Age 86

From tax and census records it appears that james, his mother and his brothers moved from Sussex Co., De to Monogalia Co., VA about 1798.  Then prior to 1820 James moved to Tyler Co., where he aquired approximately 1050 acres of land on Fishing Creek.  this area became part of Wetzel Co. in 1846.

Co., OH.  They arrived in McDonough Co. in 1833 from Pennsylvania and
Ohio, with his sisters' families, Obid Griffin and Robert Frakes.  Is
Muskingum Co. in OH or PA?

Absolam Willey, Obadiah Griffin and Malon Shaw, all having large families, were squatters living in a small cabin on the southwest quarter of section twenty-one, Littleton Twp., Schuyler Co., in 1833

The Will of Absalom Willey is recorded in McDonough County, IL Will Book 1, 1834-1857 pages 166-167.  The will itself can be found In Will Box #1173 at the Courthouse.  It is dated April 7, 1838 and was probated June 16, 1856.  The will left Rachel her "dower rights", three daughters received $5.00 each, and the sons got the land.  At his death in 1856, Absalom had sixty-eight known grandchildren.  He was a substantial and respected man.  Both he and Rachel could read and write-no small accomplishment for their day.  The will reads:
     "IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN.  I ABSOLUM WILLEY of the County of McDonough and State of Illinois, being weak in body but of sound mind and memory do make ordain and establish this my Last will and tesament (sic) revoking all others and I do hereby appoint John Willey to be the executor of this my Last will and testament."
     "1st It is my will that all my Just debts be paid that sufficient of my personal property be sold to for that purpose."
     "2nd After the payment of all my Just debts and funeral expenses I do hereby devise and bequeath to my beloved wife the farm and improvements thereon on which I now Live.  Know as being the East half of the NorthEast quarter of section thirty five in Township four North of the base line in range Three West of the fourth principal, during her natural life to take the issues and profits thereof.  After her death I bequeath and divide all my right title and estate of and to said farm to my son Charles W. to have and to hold the same to him and his heirs and assigns forever.  I also bequeath and devise a certain other tract of land viz. the West half of the NorthEast quarter of the above mentioned section to my sons Charles W. and Samuel in equal parts, that is Charles W. is to have the East half and Samuel the West half of the last mentioned tract to have and to hold the same unto them and their heirs and assigns forever.  I also bequeath and devise to my son Samuel a certain other tract of land known as the East half of the SouthEast quarter of section twenty six in Township four North in range three West of the fourth principal meridian, to have and to hold the same to him and his heirs and assigns forever.  Also to my son George I also devise and bequeath a certain other tract of land situate in the County of McDonough and the State Aforesaid being the West half of the south West quarter of Section (?) twenty five in Township Four north of range______ three west of the fourth principal meridian and to my Sons John Willey and William Willey each the sum of Five Dollars in Money.  Also I bequeath and devise Five Dollars to each of my daughters Sally Griffin, Elizabeth Griffin and Catherine Shaw To Have and To Hold the same unto them and their heirs and assigns forever."
     "In Testimony whereof I have Hereunto Set my hand and affixed my Seal this Seventh day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight."

William was born in DE, but was considered a native of PA.  Around 1818 William and his 8 children moved to OH.  The first location in OH was a small tract of land that he bought from his brother-in-law George Dye.  William owned land in Morgan Co., OH.  He sold 80 acres to his son Absalom in 1838 for $300.   The record of this land sale showed that he could write, but Sarah could not.

Notes for ISAAC WILLEY:
Isaac joined the Union Army during the Civil War.  he mustered into service on August 7, 1861 into Company C, 7th West Virginia Volunteers at Grafton, VA  He was discharged Feb. 12, 1863 on account of disability.

The following is an excerpt from a statement made by D. R. Meighen on how Isaac was hurt during the war: "...remained stout and healthy until in the latter part of July 1862 at Harrisons Landing while on fatique duty throwing up breastworks he received an injury by falling in a well we was marching out to go to work after dark when he fell in the well I was in the next rank behind him when he fell..."

The following are excerpts from a letter written Jan. 11, 1896 by special examiner E. H. Carver:  "During the time he was in the army they called him the 'Wild Boar' and those that I interviewed knew him better by that name then any other."

"The neighborhood where the claiment has lived both before the war and since is the roughest in the northern part of the state and the people are correspondingly rough, ignorant and poor yet though who ever testified in this case are the very best in that part of Wetzel co. ..."

According to the Certificate of Disability for Discharge, Isaac was 5'9" tall, blue eyes and light hair.

Charles Willey, a farmer of Bethel township, is a native of Ohio, born in 1820, in  Muskingum county.  He is a son of Ablisum and Rachel (Lemby) Willey, both  natives of Pennsylvania. Charles may properly be classed among the early settlers of this county, as he came here with his parents in 1834 and settled on section 35,Bethel township, where he owns 120 acres of land and has always since lived upon the same. He was married in 1841 to Sarah Frakes. They have had 13 children—Liddie, Isaac, David, Andy, Stephen, Boyd, Leonard, Noah, Morris, Caroline, Mahala, Amanda, and Laurinda.
