Obituary for Paul Henry SCHNAKE

Paul Henry Schnake, 93, of Beardstown, died Monday,July 24, 2000, at Culbertson Long Term Care in Rushville.
He was born Dec. 21, 1906, in Hagener Township inCass County to Henry Schnake and Anna Pelker-Schnake. He married IreneWestermeyer on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1947, in the parsonage of the BluffsLutheran Church.
He is survived by a nephew, Marvin Schnake, threegreat nieces, five great nephews and several great-great nieces and great-greatnephews. He was preceded
in death by his wife, Irene; both of his parents; three brothers, Frederick,Edwin, and Albert; and two nephews.
Mr. Schnake was a member of the First Evangelical(Fourth Street) Lutheran Church of Beardstown, Farm Bureau, and a pastelection board member. He was honorably discharged as an air maintenancetechnican from World War II
After retiring from farming and raising hogs, heliked to travel, especially on the Elder-Hostel trips to several U.S. states,Germany, England, and Italy.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday,July 26, 2000, at the Cline-Goodwin Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burialat Beardstown City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior toservice at the funeral home. The family has suggested memorials be madeto the Fourth Street Lutheran Church
of Beardstown.

Newton Max Simpson, 75, of Lewistown, died WednesdayMay 31, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 6, 1924, at Ray, the son of Newtonand Alice (Robinson) Simpson. He married Martha Knappenberger on Feb. 11,1967, at Macomb. She survives with one son, Allen Simpson of Colchester;one daughter, Alesa Simpson of Macomb; one stepson, Frank Shanks of Amarilo,Texas; two step-daughters, Nancy Fugate of Navarre, Fla., and Helen Nasepof Peoria; one grandson; nine step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren;one brother, Romeo Simpson of Rushville; one half-brother, Wayland Billingsleyof Appleton, Wisc.; and three sisters, Doris Dean of Yakama, Wash., HazelBecraft of Roseville and Ruey Strubenger of Ridge Farm.
He was preceded in death by one half-brother, onehalf-sister, one step-grandson, and one step-great-grandson.
He worked as superintendent at the Peoria Post Office,and later worked as postmaster at the Lewistown Post Office before retiring.He was a WW II Army Veteran, and a recipient of a Bronze Star. He was anactive member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church, where he servedas a trustee, a board member, and a member of the Methodist Mens Club.He had served as an alderman for the city of Lewistown, and was a memberof the Lewistown VFW Post 5001, American Legion Post 1, Lewistown OptimistClub, and the Sierra Club. He also had served as a delegate at the UnitedMethodist Church Convention. He was an avid gardener, and also collectedantique John Deere tractors (full size).
Services were held Tuesday, June 6, at his church,with Rev. Jon Sims officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery,with military services by his VFW and American Legion Posts. Henry MemorialHome in Lewistown was in charge of services.

Lydia F. Taeger, 88, of Rushville, formerly of Burlington,Iowa, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Snyders Vaughn-Haven Nursing Homein Rushville.
Born Dec. 7, 1911, in Roscoe, Iowa, to John andMartha Schulze Mehmken, she married Edwin F. Taeger on Aug. 18, 1934, inDes Moines County, Iowa. He died Sept. 12, 1986.
One grandson and one great-granddaughter also precededher in death. Surviving are one son, James of St. Joseph; two daughters,Martha VanBaale of Rushville and Sandra of Arena, Wisc.; 10 grandchildren;two step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
She worked at Burlington School Cafeteria in Burlingtonfor 21 years.
She was an active member of the Senior CitizensQuilting Group.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Burlingtonand its Womens Circle.
Services were Tuesday at her church. The Revs. DuaneMiller and Jack Reents officiated. Burial was in Salem Lutheran Cemeteryin rural Burlington. Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel of Rushville is in chargeof local arrangements.

Mary Ann Tucker, 66, of East Peoria, died Wednesday,June 21, 2000, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
Born Aug. 1, 1933, in Rushville to Glenn and VelmaFretueg Stivers, she married Lee Tucker on Aug. 5, 1951, in Rushville.He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Lonnie (wife Sandra)of East Peoria; three daughters, Glenna (husband Raymond) Peplow and Brenda(husband David) McIntyre, both of East Peoria, and Stephanie (husband Martin)Clayton of Washington; one brother, Richard (wife Mary) Stivers of Rushville;three sisters, Louise McMillan of East Peoria and Minnie (husband Bill)Arnold and Margurete (husband Earl) Smith, both of Rushville; and ninegrandchildren.
Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
She was the proprietor of Pings Pantry in Rushville.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of EastPeoria.
Services were Saturday, June 24, 2000, at EmmertFuneral Home in East Peoria. Burial was in the Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.

Nina Walker, 87, of Rushville, died Monday, June26, 2000, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
She was born June 8, 1913, in Oakland Township,Schuyler County, to the late Samuel W. and Catherine Montooth Phillips.She married Evert Clyde Walker Aug. 18, 1935, in Macomb. He died Jan. 9,1971.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Max (Shirley) Strodeof Bradford; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister,Mrs. Russell (Catherine) Sargent of Rushville; and one brother, WillardPhillips, of Rushville.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and fourbrothers.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Churchof Rushville. She worked at Stephens Cleaners and J.C. Penney Co. in Rushvilleuntil retiring in 1983.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday,June 29, at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Scott Henleyofficiating. Burial will be in the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitationwill be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Howard Bill Yates, 87, of Camden, died Thursday,Aug. 3, 2000, at Snyders Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.
He was born Dec. 26, 1912, in Camden Township, SchuylerCounty; the son of Robert Richmond and Clara Ann Black Yates. He marriedHazel Lung on Sept. 12, 1937, in the Methodist Church parsonage in Industry.
She survives, along with two sons, Dennis (wifeSheila) of Rushville and Steve of Camden; one daughter, Dianne Filbert(hushand Warren) of Columbia, Mo.; two grandchildren; one brother, Warren,of El Paso; and one sister, Catherine Ward, of Rushville.
He was preceded in death by one infant son, JohnRichard; five brothers and five sisters.
He was a member of the Bethany Church near Camdenand Camden Lodge #648 A.F. & A.M. The lifelong Camden Townshipfarmer was a Camden Township clerk and supervisor for many years and wasa member of the Township Officials of Illinois.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the WorthingtonFuneral Home in Rushville with burial in the Rushville City Cemetery. TheRev. Carl Wiggins officiated. Masonic services were conducted onSaturday by the Camden Lodge #648 A.F. & A.M.

James F. Young, 75, of Industry died Sunday, July30, 2000, at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
He was born Sept. 5, 1924 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowato the late William E. and Blanche R. Scott Young.
He married Lorene L. Longcor Aug. 12, 1984 in Keokuk,Iowa.
She survives along with one son, William James Youngof Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; two daughters, Mary Ann Downey and Carla Jean Johnsonboth of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; one sister, Louise Woolley of Mt. Pleasant,Iowa.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and onesister.
He was a farmer in Iowa and Illinois for many yearsand then was a janitor at the Industry School retiring in 1989.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Aug. 1 atthe Industry Cemetery with Marshall Litchfield officiating. The WorthingtonFuneral Home in Rushville was in charge of services.

-BRAZELTON, Alexander — Died at his residence inRushville on Tuesday morning, August 31, 1875 of general debility, Mr.Alexander BRAZELTON, aged 72 years, 5 months and 22 days. Mr. BRAZELTONwas a native of Blount County, Tennessee, where he resided until 1829 whenhe emigrated to Vermillion County, Illinois. He removed from that countyto Rushville in 1831, where he resided until his death. For a number ofyears he has been confined to his residence having lost his eyesight andfor the past 3 or 4 years he has been almost helpless, being a constantcare to his aged wife.
-HOAGLAND, Oakey M. — Died at his residence inBardolph, McDonough County, Illinois, August 18, 1875 of dysentery, aftera lingering illness, Oakey M. HOAGLAND in the 73rd year of his age. Thedeceased was one of the early settlers of Rushville, having emigrated fromKentucky and settled in this place in
1836. He was engaged in merchandizing here until 1840 when he removedto a farm near Bardolph on which he resided until very recently.

Lora Vail “Tom” Agans, 83, of Rushville, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.He was born May 10, 1917, in Camden Township, Schuyler County the son of the late F.W. and Clara Jane (Marlow) Agans. He married Louise Roudebush on Aug. 14, 1940, in St. Charles, Mo. She survives.Also surviving are one son, Larry Agans (wife Debbie) of Marion; two daughters, Sandra Brockman of Beardstown and Janie Ward (husband Jerry) of Rushville; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Ora Agans, of Rushville; and two sisters, Margria Sharer (husband Harlan) of Milan, and Marthia Flake (husband Maurice) of Harrison, Tenn.He was preceded in death by one grandson, Dusty Jo Ward, and two brothers, Harold and Winscyial Agans.He first worked for the Adams Electrical Co-Operative as a lineman. He later farmed for Charles Rohn. In 1945, he began working at Quinn’s Shell in Rushville. In 1966, he purchased the business and renamed it Tom’s Shell and operated it until his retirement on March 16, 1980. He then drove a school bus for Schuyler Unit District #1.He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville, a 50-year member of Rushville Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 9, Lusk Chapter No. 20 Royal Arch Masons, Commandery 506 Knight Templar, 22 Club, 50-year member of the I.O.O.F, Friendship Lodge No. 24, and Adeleide Rebekah Lodge 381 before transferring membership to Macomb Rebekah Lodge 342. He enjoyed sharing “time” with his family and visiting with all his friends.Funeral services were Tuesday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville with Rev. Robert Belew officiating. Betty L. Allen, 66, of Clayton, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in St. John’s Hospital North in Springfield.Born Aug. 30, 1934, in Kellerville, Mrs. Allen was a daughter of Don and Helen Leapley Stevens. She married Jerry Allen on July 2, 1955, in Clayton. He survives.Mrs. Allan was a homemaker and worked for Bents Family Foods in Camp Point for more than 20 years. She was a graduate of Clayton High School.Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Beverly Bell (husband Tim) of Camp Point, and Bonnie Power (husband Rob) of Quincy; a sister, Pat Patton (husband Paul) of Clayton; and five grandchildren.Services were held Friday, Dec. 22 in the Hamilton Funeral Home by the Rev. She married Rodney E. Belville on Sept. 12, 1959, in Ipava. Dorothy A. “Dots” Bucy 63, of Astoria, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born Oct. 17, 1937, in Astoria, the daughter of Albert and Addie M. (Stambaugh) Schisler. She married John W. Bucy on Nov. 20, 1955, in Astoria. Betty Jean Stegmiller Cobb, 75, of Frederick, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at her home.She was born Sept. 18, 1925, in St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of the late Charles Dewight and Clara Ann (Schultz) Randolph. She married Tyrus Cobb on Nov. 5, 1960, in Chicago. He died Sept. 24, 1998.Surviving are one daughter, Clara Jean Lane of Frederick; two sons, George J. Stegmiller of Denver, Colo., and Charles D. Dr. Dale N. Crone died Aug. 28, 2000, in Phoenix, Ariz.He was born March 10, 1930, in Rushville, the son of Mabel and Dwight Crone. Dale was a graduate of Rushville High School, Western Illinois University and Illinois State University were he received a doctorate of philosophy degree. He was a high school administrator in Rockford, retiring in 1986 and moving to Phoenix, Ariz.He married Glennavon Grohs on Nov. 22, 1951, in Williamsfield. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church his entire life.Dale is survived by his wife, Glennavon, and three daughters, Myra Crone, Marci Crone, and Leslie Maniscalco, as well as son-in-law, Steve; two grandchildren; a brother, Verne Crone of Rushville; a niece; and two nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Maurine Cripe.Services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Phoenix with interment in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix.

Larry G. Crook, 54, of Clayton, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, in his home.Born April 14, 1946, in Pittsfield, he was a son of Lawrence and Ada Lee Crook. He married Cynthia Hageman Jan. 9, 1997, in Quincy. She survives.He was a machinist at Hollister Whitney Elevator Corporation in Quincy and had previously worked at Bohn Aluminum in Beardstown for 19 years. He was a member of the Nazarene faith. He was in the United States Army, stationed in Bancock [Bangkok], Thailand from 1966-68.Survivors in addition to his wife include his father, Lawrence Crook of Barry; two sons, Larry Crook (wife Bonnie) of Clayton and Timothy Crook of Beardstown; a daughter, Frances Sparks (husband Daniel) of Clayton; four stepsons, David Kirkpatrick (wife Lisa) of Quincy; Bobbie Kirkpatrick (wife Angelica) of Quincy; and Timothy Glassford and James Glassford of Lima; three brothers, Tom Crook of Nebo; David Crook of Rushville and Donnie Crook of Barry; seven sisters, Sue Sides of Arkansas; Becky Sheppard of Arkansas; Mary Ellen Crowe of Bushnell; Dorothy Brehe of Missouri; Sandy Blackorby of Hamburg; Vada Williams of Barry and Katie Williams of Barry; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his mother.Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 30 at the Hamilton Funeral Home with the Rev. Mary E. Dotzert, 79, of Beardstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at the Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.She was born Sept. 29, 1921, in Woodson, the daughter of Liz and Eula Wilson Virgin. She married Clarence E. Dotzert on June 15, 1940, in New London, Mo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1998.Surviving are four sons, Jerry Dotzert (wife Patsy), David C. Dotzert (wife Sue), Michael Dotzert (wife Joyce) and Douglas Dotzert, all of Beardstown; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Aileen Emerick and Bernice Loughary (husband Bob) both of Beardstown.She also was preceded in death by her parents.Mrs. Dotzert graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1940. She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs. Mrs. Dotzert farmed with her husband in Cass County for 50 years. When her children were young, Mrs. Dotzert worked at Woolworths in Beardstown. In recent years she worked at the Beardstown Elks Club and as an election judge for Precinct 2 in Beardstown.Funeral services for Mary E. Dotzert were held Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with Rev. Elise Rothfusz of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs officiating. Marie Alice Doyle, 75, of Hamilton, formerly of Warsaw, died Wednesday; Dec. 20, 2000, at her home.She was born Dec. 21, 1924, in Hamilton, a daughter of Hugh and Clara Bell Stepp Worster. On Nov. 9, 1945, she married Carl Edward Doyle in Carthage. He died Jan. 24, 1992.She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ralph Parker American Legion Post. II and a member of Schuyler American Legion Post 4. He also was a founding member of the Schuy-Rush Park Board and a past member of the Rushville Rotary Club. James R. Little, 66, of Quincy, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in his home.Born March 8, 1934, in Rushville, Mr. Little was the son of James Leslie and Ione Henderson Little. He married Gretchen Behrends on Oct. 8, 1961, in Lincoln. She survives.He was a member of First Christian Church. He has been involved in Masonic Orders for 40 years as a member of Rushville Masonic Lodge No.9, Littleton Lodge No. 766 where he was a Past Master, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine Temple in Springfield, Quincy Shrine Club and the Belgian Hitch.He graduated from Rushville High School in 1952 and from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago in 1953. He served his apprenticeship at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb. He entered the U.S. Army in 1956. He later worked for seven years at Preston Funeral Home and for three years at Kuecks Funeral Home in Pekin before moving to Clayton, where he farmed for five years. He later was employed at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy until 1994, when he became a bailiff for the Adams County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Little retired in 1998.Also surviving is a son, James Little III (wife Elizabeth) of McHenry; two daughters, Odette Little of Woodstock and Melissa Little of Hoboken, N.J.; three grandchildren; two brothers, David Little of Ozark, Mo., and Robert Little of Bartonville; a sister, Marilyn McElyer of Eureka; and several nieces and nephews.Mr. Little was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth.Funeral services were held Friday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. She also operated Betty Sue’s Cafe in Bowen.She was a graduate of Augusta High School, and was an active member of the Huntsville United Methodist Church.She was well known in the area for her cake baking and decorating skills. She was a member and president of the Augusta Senior Center. She served as superintendent in the domestic department of the Hancock County Fair and organized the pie baking contest. She served as a volunteer aide at the Southeastern Elementary School in Plymouth and was a past leader of the Center Satellites 4-H Club.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in the United Church of Augusta in Augusta, Ill., with Rev. She died on Oct. 15, 2000, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.She married Roger Clyde Schenck March 2, 1952, in Anthony, N.M. He died Nov. 7, 1969, in Albuquerque, N.M. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Greenleaf (an infant) and Mrs. Joseph (Pauline) Bovey; three brothers, Joseph Uriah Greenleaf, Sterling Greenleaf, and Roger E. Greenleaf; two nieces; and two nephews.Mrs. Schenck graduated from Augusta High School in 1923, and taught school in the area until she entered nurse’s training at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. She received a BSN from the University of Chicago, and then was a nurse in Indianapolis, Ind., and Pittsburgh, Penn. When World War II began, she was the first woman from Schuyler County to enter World War II military service, Oct. 4, 1942. She was stationed first at Fort Ord, Calif., then in Brisbane and Sydney, Australia, where she served 28 months as staff nurse and chief nurse. She was discharged from service as a captain, Sept. 30, 1946.In 1946, Alice moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where she was head therapy nurse for the Veterans Administration Hospital. She obtained her master’s degree in nursing education from the University of New Mexico in 1951. After several years in the VA hospital at Prescott, she retired, returning to live in Albuquerque. There she was the New Mexico State Inspector of Schools of Nursing for several years.After the death of her husband, she moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1971, to be near family members. After her retiremeat, she traveled extensively throughout the world and worked on her hobbies, including stamps, dolls, bird figurines, pitchers, Depression and Fenton glass, flea marketing, family history and genealogy. In 1985, she published a genealogy, “Peter and Mary Halenbeck Greenleaf of New Jersey and sons Peter and Joseph of Illinois.” In 1992 she moved to Sunset Home in Quincy to be near her sister, Violet G. Rose.Alice is survived by one sister, Violet G. Rose of Quincy, and several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Glen (Mary) Hanning of Huntsville; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.Memorials may be given to the Sunset Home building fund, 418 Washington St., Quincy, IL 62301.

Bertie Breeden was born in Lynchburg, township, Mason county, Illinoison March 26, 1875. She departed this life at the home of her brother,Beriman Breeden, near Browning on March 28, 1912; aged thirty seven yearsand two days. She was united in marriage to Allen Moss at Snicarte in March 1891. Tothis union were born five sons and two daughters. She leaves to mourn herloss, her husband, two daughters and three sons and four grandchildredn.Two sonns having preceeded the mother to the final resting place. Thedaughters are Mrs. Effie Gobble of Sheldons Grove and Mrs. Laura Linsey ofHavana. The sons are Charles, Wilbert and Russell Moss, all of whom are athome. She also leaves four brothers, John J. Breeden and James A Breedenboth of Bath; Beriman Breeden of Browning and Charles Breeden of Camden,also one sister, Mrs. Emily Arendell of Mason City. Funeral services were held at the home of her brother, Beriman J.Breeden of near Browning. conducted by Rev. W. B. Theobald on March 30,1912 at 10 A. M. She was laid to rest in the Thompson Cemetery, three milesnorth of Sheldons Grove

Mr. Breeden was born in Snicarte on Dec. 29, 1892, a son of Bearaman J.and Lillie Jolly Breeden. He married Alice Phillips in Beardstown on May27, 2922. She survives. He has been a wholesale-retail fish dealer inBrowning for several years. He was a member of the Central Christian Churchand a charter member of the Schuyler County Post 4 American Legion, holdingas honorary lifetime membership. He was the first man from Schuyler Countycalled to service in the U.S. Army during World War 1. In addition to his widow Mr. Breeden is survived by one sone, Albert J.of Browning: three grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; two sisters,Mrs. Mabel Flock of Grafton and Mrs. Tilda Van Drosick of Alton, and onebrother Nelson of Browning. One son Ernest and three sisters, and onebrother proceeded him in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Doris Burnett Lee of Rushville; onestep-son Eugene Breeden of East Peoria; one brother Everett Fitzgerald ofCanaan, Mo.; three sisters, Mae Grannermann, of Gerald, Mo. Ruby Bossaller,Owensville, Mo. and Frances “Bonnie” Busby of Rushville; five grandchildren;eight step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 24step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and manyfriends. She was proceded in death by her parents; one son, Stanley Scego; onebrother, Raymond Fitzgerald; one niece and one nephew. She was a former member of the Browning Assembly of God Church and amember of the Rushville Assembly of God Church. She was born April 19, 1916 to Clark and Anna Brooks Hinbaugh and in1941 was united in marriage to Vancil Breeden. He died in 1961. She is survived by a 1/2 sister Helen Johnson of Florida; numerousnieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held 11:00a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 1982 atthe Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta. Rev. Harvey Anderson officiated.Mary Keller played comforting organ selections.
