Herbert Weinberg Opens New Sandwich Shop – “A Maid-Rite Sandwich Shop was opened in Rushville Saturday by Herbert Weinberg, who has the exclusive rights for this specialty in this city.
“The new business is located in an 18×20 foot building just completed at the corner of North Liberty and West Adams streets on state route No.3. In addition to specializing on sandwiches, Mr. Weinberg carries cold drinks and ice cream and on his first two nights did a very good business.
“On this same corner Mr. Weinberg expects to build a super service station this fall.” The Rushville Times, July 23, 1930

Purchased by Nelson & Robertson In 1836
“George Nelson father of W.W. Nelson and Lewis Robertson who formed a partnership in 1836 and opened a general store in Rushville and purchased the two lots and the building from Abram Smith in 1836.
“From that day to the present time the Nelson lot and the old store building which has been moved to the rear has remained in the Nelson family as owners.
“Years ago Mr. Nelson says old residents told him that the timbers in the building were hewed from trees cut within a mile of the public square. The old frame braced and pined together with wooden pins and with weather boarding and lath split from native timber is yet in a fair state of preservation.”
