Capt.Christian W. Hite
CaptainC.W. HITE was born in Licking County, Ohio, January 22d, 1838. His greatgrandfather Hughes, was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and lived untilabout the year 1840. His grandfather, Abraham Hite, was born in Virginiaand served his country as a soldier in the War of 1812. His vocationwas that of a farmer. He died at his residence in Licking County,Ohio. His son, the father of the Captain, was born in lickingCounty, Ohio, in 1813, and at an early age her learned to blacksmith trade,following that business until 1846. In 1836 he married Miss MaryM., daughter of Christian STOUT, Esq. They had a family of 13 children, nine of whom are now living, the subject ofthis sketch being the oldest. In 1850, Mr. HITE moved to SchuylerCounty, Illinois, and now resides on his farm in Brooklyn Township. TheCaptain received most of his early education in the commonschools of Illinois. On the breaking out of the late rebellionhe enlisted in August, 1862, as a private, and was soon raised to the rankof Second Lieutenant, and from that position to a First Lieutenant, soonafter which he was promoted to and received the commission of Captain,and was mustered our at the close of the war as Captain of Company A, 78th regiment Illinois Volunteers. On the sixth of September, 1865, hewas married to Miss Catherine E., daughter of Felix Walker, Esq. They have one child. The Captain is at present a member of the firmof Taylor & Hite, Brooklyn, Schuyler County, Illinois
Thisis the first son (known as Chris) of William Henry Harrison HITE, calledHarrison, who married Mary Magdalene STOUT.
