JOHN F. HUSS, general farmerand stock raiser in section 1, township 17, range 11, has entire chargeof his father’s homestead of more than 300 acres of fine land, under goodimprovement. The buildings are large and comfortable, and the place iswell stocked. Mr. Huss has had the place under his personal control fornearly three years, and has shown himself to be a very successful farmer.He was born in this county, May 27, 1866. He was reared and has alwayslived on the farm where he was born. He received his education in the countryschools. He is the fourth son of Christian Hess, who was born in Germany,of German parentage, and came to the United States alone. Mr. Huss, Sr.,emigrated to this country in the ’50s, settling in Beardstown. He purchasedtwo other farms before he obtained his present homestead. The later heconducted himself, until the spring of 1889. He is now about sixty yearsof age, hale and hearty, has made all of his large property since he hascome to this country. He is a member of the Lutheran Church, and a stanchDemocrat. Our subject is one of ninechildren, seven of whom are still living. Mr. Huss, of the notice, wasmarried in this county to Miss Minnie Buck, born in this county, in 1868,daughter of Jasper J. Buck. (See biography, of Mr. Buck for history.) Shehas no family, is a very smart, intelligent woman, and is one of the kindwomen of the community, and is so known everywhere. She and her husbandare popular young people, and highly respected by all their neighbors.Mr. Huss takes quite an interest in local politics, and it may be predictedthat he will be elected by the Democratic party to fill many of the officesof the county.
